Missing Post Formats
I have missing post formats. I am using the theme Twenty Eleven where it says I am supposed to have the formats standard, aside, image, video, quote, link, gallery, status. I am missing the Video format that would be really useful to me. I have tried re-activating the theme but nothing has changed. Is there any way of getting this post format?
The blog I need help with is jessmyers.wordpress.com.
That’s because, on wordpress.com you have to buy the VideoPress upgrade to post your own videos directly (i.e. upload your own videos to your blog). You can still, for free, embed videos from YouTube, Vimeo, Hulu, Flickr, DailyMotion, Viddler, Blip.tv, TED Talks, Educreations, and Videolog (instructions available on the link below, then click on the site the video is on).
So you won’t see a video format unless you pay $60 per year to do this. You can just use a regular post to embed a video.
@danielisreading: Setting the post format to Video means the post will somehow change appearance. This has nothing to do with whether the video is uploaded to your blog or not, and often it doesn’t even have to do with whether the post includes a video or not. For an extreme example, see how the Audio and Video format look in Vertigo:
(The screenshots were taken after changing the format of the same post, with the same dummy text as content, no audio and no video inserted or uploaded.)
@jbrmyers: As far as I know, the Video format was never present in Twenty Eleven. Here’s my own post on post formats (documenting all the themes that had been launched up to early 2012):
Really odd. It appears in the theme showcase for Twenty-Eleven:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentyeleven/ but is indeed entirely missing in action from the list of available post formats in the Post Editor when the theme is enabled.
I’ve tagged this for Staff assistance.
It appears that the video post format is missing from Twenty Eleven despite the documentation on that theme. (This does not seem to be dependent on having the VideoPress upgrade.) You can access the video format if you go to the “New Post” option in your admin bar when logged into your blog, however.
As for the regular post editor window, we’re making some changes that should soon resolve this issue. Stay tuned! :)
@jackiedana I did notice that I could get the video format there but wondered why it was not on the regular post editor window. Thanks for sorting it all out! :)
