Modularity Lite as a Website (not a blog)
Hi – I’m preparing to redo my website shanekelleyphotography.com (two E in Kelley) and move the domain name over to wordpress – WordPress.com at first – later wordpress.org when I know the software better. So far everything is going well except for the home page slideshow. I’m using Modularity Lite as a website – not as a blog, so I just have pages with images, no postings – can’t figure out how to put a slideshow – or anything on the homepage. Would appreciate help/instructions. Have not moved my domain shanekelleyphotography.com yet so it’s still shanekelley.wordpress.com :) Shane
The blog I need help with is shanekelley.wordpress.com.
I don’t know about that theme specifically, but WordPress software is optimized for blogging. You can work around this sort of thing with come code hacking at WordPress.org, but at WordPress.com you can’t really adapt the way the themes work. If it pulls featured images from Posts and not pages, then if you want a slideshow you’re going to have to make Posts, not pages.
To display static content on the homepage, you create a page in Pages > Add New, add whatever you want to that page, and set it as your front in Settings > Reading.
The slideshow of the theme is designed as a teaser for your latest posts. As rain said, it pulls images from all the posts on the homepage (regularly inserted images, not featured ones). So if you set your front to display a static page instead of your latest posts, the ML slideshow can’t be used. You can insert the regular WordPress slideshow (you edit the static front page, upload images from your computer via the Add Media button and click insert slideshow), or you can insert 3rd-party slideshows.
PS You need to correct your username link: the URL it links to isn’t valid.
