Motion theme, I accidentally changed it,…lost all customizations!
I’ve been using motion theme for quite some time, but I saw this new theme – Imbalance 2 – and tried to test it, so I clicked activate thinking that it would go back as it is if I didn’t like it.
When I got back to Motion, I lost all the customizations (nothing coded) of the widgets!
Can I get back to the previous state if it was somehow backed up by wordpress.com?
The blog I need help with is dannyk.wordpress.com.
Will you please provide an active link to the blog in question? And do you have a custom design upgrade on that blog?
When we change themes no data is lost. The new theme will provide a default sidebar display with what appears to be widgets but they aren’t. We simply go here > Appearance > Themes and install the widgets we used before from the Inactive Widgets box and the default sidebar display is overridden by our choices. So “yes” you can switch back and place all the widgets you had before where they were before.
The reason I asked about the custom design upgrade follows. CSS is theme specific. If you have custom CSS and later change themes, you need to delete whatever CSS you have in the Editor, otherwise, you’ll get undesired results.
To ‘reset’ a theme, you need to delete the CSS in the Editor, make sure the “add to existing CSS” radio button is checked, then save. Things should go back to normal.
Thanks timethief for the prompt reply,
I haven’t actually gone that far with customization of my blog (I mean CSS, or typekit or anything), but all the side widgets on dannyk.wordpress.com are now as you’ve hinted are in the Inactive Widgets box.
I’ve been trying to put them back, and although I have to rearrange them (as some others like Flickr photos have gone in the Available and not Inactive widget box) but at least I don’t have to repeat them all again!
I hope things other than the widgets haven’t changed in the process too and I still haven’t noticed…
PS. I can’t find the number of clicks widget anymore…. (if it’s Top Clicks, it shows 0!)
Will you please provide an active link to the blog in question?
Rest assured that widgets cannot disappear. If they aren’t in the Inactive Widgets box then they are in the Active Widgets box.
