A friend of mine just started to make a blog here on and he also bought a domain.

How can he “move” it to a selfhost service?

The blog I need help with is

You can use the transfer service . GO to your blog dashboard and then click on the store button you have to chose the option for the transfer of the domain .

Here is how your friend can move to and a self-hosted site:

Is your friend clear on the differences between wp.ORG and wp.COM?
Here are details about the differences:

I ask because perhaps your friend only means to map his domain while retaining hosting at wp.COM:

I logged into his account and tried to do what was described…

He bought his domain here on

he now want to have a selfhosted site…

when I click his domain – I go strainght into his blog.. not changing his nameservers to point to his new web hotell.

So something I must be doing wrong here…

Please see these instructions here as well:

If you’ve registered your domain through and now want it to point to a blog or website hosted elsewhere then you can do this by updating the nameservers. Follow the Update Nameservers instructions. … The nameservers control where traffic for the domain goes using DNS. If you are moving from to a self-hosted blog, you can enter the nameservers provided by your web hosting company to switch your domain to their hosting service.

Question: we’re doing this right now on our blog…once the registration process occurs, if people still try to find our blog, will they be directed to our site? Or will the site be completely gone?

Also, can anyone tell me: are we better off being hosted by for advertising purposes?

I got it right… Now I found out how to change the nameserveres…

When you go to shop on your wordpress dashboard – you can order a redirect for 12 dollar a year..

    OK, thanks!
