Moving a blog to a new domain and host - HELP

  1. Hello all. I've got hosting with TSO Host, and am looking to move my blog over from to it. I am completely clueless as to how to go about this. Can you help? I am thoroughlt confused by several mixed messages I've read on the internet. Any and all suggestions are gratefully received; and nothing is too obvious - when I say clueless, I *really* mean clueless.
    Many thanks!

The blog I need help with is

  2. First you must set up your web hosting. Some web hosts will supply you with a install and some don't. In the latter case you will need to get a free software install from and set it up on your new site.

Next you will have to upload a theme and plugins of your choice.

  3. Then you can export the content of your blog out and import the file into your new blog. See >

  4. Thanks for your help, timethief. I will start this in a few hours' time once I have access and am on my own computer. I'll keep you posted as to how I get on!

  5. I'd like to recommend that you read the support documentation over here >

Also note that the correct forum to get help with your wordpress.ORG installation is not here at It's here >

  6. timethief, it's worked brilliantly. So grateful for your help - CHEERS!

  7. Yay! I'm so glad to hear that. Welcome to self hosting. :)

  8. Timethief, I have several questions for you as well. I am also thinking about moving my website. But I don't really know if I set up my website right or not, so it may be hard or impossible to move.First of all, when me or someone else looks up my website, it still has the wordpress in the name. My website is CTSORTHODOX.COM, but when it appears, it says, I find wordpress is just to complex for me. Do you have any suggestions? My domains .com, .info, and .net are all with GoDaddy. I have a church website so freebie websites are better for our small church. Thanks so much for the help you can give.

  9. The domain is changing because you've just forwarded the domains to your blog, you've not mapped them. For the URL not to change, you'd need to map the domain to your blog:

  10. Thanks for the info. Should I map it then move it, or just move it like it is?
