Moving followers to self-hosted blog, but wordpress.com blog not listed
I have set up my self-hosted blog virtualmigrants.net along with jetpack and want to transfer all followers from virtualmigrants.wordpress.com . I have followed the procedures for the Subscription Migration Tool at http://jetpack.me/support/subscription-migration-tool/ and under my username ‘koojchuhan’ I am an administrator of both blogs and this is the jetpack connection for the self-hosted blog.
Problem is, I go to my sites which has both the .com and self-hosted sites listed and then clicking ‘manage’ under the virtualmigrants.net site, it then does not show the virtualmigrants.wordpress.com site as an option to move followers from. Maybe this is because am also in the middle of cancelling domain mapping from the .com site which was mapped to the site that is now self hosted? Any ideas?
The blog I need help with is virtualmigrants.wordpress.com.
I flagged this for staff to help with.
Only the user who owns the WordPress.com blog will be able to transfer the followers from that blog to the self-hosted one. (Although you’re an administrator on the blog, you aren’t the owner.)
I can help you with that follower transfer, if you’d like. I’ll just need the WordPress.com user who owns the blog at virtualmigrants.wordpress.com to reply to this forum thread to confirm they want the followers moved over. Then I can transfer them for you.
Just a heads up about how that will work: Your email followers will continue to receive email updates, and your WordPress.com followers will continue to see your new posts in the Reader. If your WordPress.com followers would like to receive email updates, as well, they can subscribe via email on your new blog.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that!
Hi – I am now replying via my other account that is as the blog owner of virtualmigrants.wordpress.com, my username is now virtualmigrants.
In fact I have also just tried doing it all again after disconnecting jetpack from the koojchuhan account, and re-connecting to virtualmigrants account. The blog from which to migrate subscribers/followers now shows the correct blog (virtualmigrants.wordpress.com), becuase I am the owner and signed in as that. However, when I click ‘Ok’ after clicking the ‘Migrate’ button I then get a message saying “Only blog owners can migrate subscribers.” Aaargh!
So in the end YES PLEASE can you organise this migration for me?
Thank you so much, and any idea as to why it still isn’t working would be welcome for future reference.
Sorry for the frustration! It looks like the issue you ran into was due to an issue when the Jetpack connection was switched to this account. I fixed that up for you, and I also transferred your followers over to the Jetpack-connected blog.
Please let me know if I can do anything more to help!
Thanks – thats great. Thanks also for being so prompt with it all, I guess this thread can be closed now. :-)
You’re welcome! I’ll mark this thread as resolved. :)
