Moving from wordpress.org to wordpress.com
-
Hi all, I am trying to switch over from wordpress.org to wordpress.com.
Can I use the export function,? But, I am unable to find the “export” option (that is available in my wordpress.com blog) in my wordpress.org.
Is there another way to transfer all my post, comments etc from wordpress.org to wordpress.com?
thanks for your help in advance

You need to upgrade your blog to the as-yet-unreleased version 2.1
That has the export function you need. Can you get an sql export from the database?

Welcome to WordPress.com!
I made a similar move to WordPress.com a month ago after being a standalone WordPress blog for two years.
Everything exported and imported fine and Mark made it all work.

Oh, and chewtw, I forgot to mention Mark was able to move 800 articles and 18,000 comments for me and didn’t lose anything in the transition.
That took a long time and a great effort and I appreciate every moment of it.

Thanks for your help!
But, I am not sure how to get phpMyAdmin (not using “cPanel, DirectAdmin, Ensim, Plesk, vDeck”)…
So, when is 2.1 coming out:D?

The answer has always been “When it’s ready” :)
If you can get a backup plugin and use that to create a backup file I can work with that too.

you can grab the export functionality from this plugin:
http://www.technosailor.com/wordpress-to-wordpress-import/wordpress 2.1 won’t be here until 2007 at last guess.
you can grab it via SVN from here, if you’re tech-savvy enough:

Thanks sunburntka, I was able to successfully transfer all the content over from my wordpress.org to my wordpress.com!
