I’m new to the wordpress world. I set up a blog in wordpress.com, but wanted to use elegant themes which i now understand can only be used in wordpress.org. I need to get the domain I purchased with wordpress.com to be the domain for my wordpress.org site (that I purchased elegant themes for.)
    HELP

The blog I need help with is danielswall.com.

Yes you can do that. What you need to do is upgrade the nameservers. The nameservers control where traffic for the domain goes using DNS. If you are moving from WordPress.com to a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, you can enter the nameservers provided by your web hosting company to switch your domain to their hosting service.

What if wordpress.com was used to purchase the domain recently? Does that mean I need to wait 60 days before I can switch to another web-hosting company, and THEN use wordpress.org?

The 60 days has to do with transferring the domain registration to another registrar. You can point your domain name purchased here anywhere you want at anytime. You do not have to transfer registration anywhere, and with wordpress only charging $5.00 per year for domain registration, you aren’t going to find much out there less expensive.

It really doesn’t matter where it is registered. You can use it anywhere following the directions in the support document Timethief references.
