Moving wordpress.com domain to private host

    Hi,

I recently purchased a domain + the domain mapping service through wordpress.com. I would now like to move to a wordpress.org installation on a private host instead, and point the domain to this host.

I tried looking through the Automattic DNS control panel, but was left none the wiser (not the most intuitive interface created, to put it mildly).

Has anyone done this, or know how to do it?

    TIA

I don’t know. Try also asking on the WordPress.org forum:

Actually, the original poster is here so that forum won’t help at all. I believe you are going to have to contact support. However, I believe you can only transfer the domain after 60 days. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=14533#post-106046

    prestifare,

Your domain is your own. You can move it elsewhere if you wish. If you registered it through WordPress.com, you can log in to the domain management console via the Upgrades/Domains tab of your blog.

If you’ve signed up for a web hosting account elsewhere, they will probably ask you to set your nameservers to some server addresses that they will provide. You can log in to the domain management console and set the name servers there.

You might also want to transfer your domain name to a different registrar – but this is an optional step. Changing your name servers is usually sufficient to point your domain to a different hosting service.
