I can’t get the archive widget to work
http://edwardianpiano.wordpress.com/
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Hi, anyone know why my archive widget won’t work? Followed all instructons but as you can see it is not on my blog.
-
Hello
please make sure you follow the instructions here
http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/archives-widget/
Also, I created a video to explain a possible reason as to why the widget wont display
-
I already have done what it tells you in the instructions like 20 times. i looked at your vid but I have no main sidebar on my page.
It just has:Sidebar widget area
Upper footer, second footer etcI would have sent you a screen grab but no attachment facility here.
-
Screenshots can use this site here:
http://pasteboard.co/
Can you take a picture of your widget screen? Also just to clarify: You can see your widget on your dashboard yet cannot see it on the site?
-
Yes, the widget page is there but there is no main sidebar section you showed in the video, just what I described above. The page you sent me wants some kind of webcam- haven’t got a webcam. I cannot attach my file to it.
-
If you go to my blog you will see no widgets. I wanted to add the following:
Archives
Follow blogI do what is said to do on the dashboard and tick all the boxes but it is doesn’t come on my blog:
http://edwardianpiano.wordpress.com/
I have tried about 25 times now.
Is this only available on premium accounts????
-
In the Dashboard–>Appearnce–>Widget screen
Click on Screen Options button located in the top-right. Then enable accessibility mode. See if that helps you add the widgets over.
See here:
http://pbrd.co/1wLUAYqAlso, pasteboard requires a screen shot. You can do a quick Google search to see how to do a screen shot for your machine.

-
I have also been on screen options like 15 times. I choose the widget, tick the boxes save and it doers not come onto my blog.
-
Has it never worked on your site?
You have to choose the widget, drag it to the widget area, then tick the boxes and save. And if you only have one month of posts it won’t show up.
-
-
Which widget area are you putting the widget in? What browser and version are you using?
-
I am not sure what you mean by widget area- if only I could attach a screen grab to this forum!!!- it is so hard to explain every little thing, but I will describe step by step here how I have followed what is on the widget page.
1. I click on dashboard.
2. I click on appeareances- widgets.
3. Now on widget page I see 2 columns. One is headed Available Widgets. The other is headed Sidebar widget areas.
Under Available widgets is the following:

Search
Recent PostsThis is all that is in the left column.
Now the right:
Side bar widget area
The side bar
Archives
Follow Blog
SearchUpper footer widget area
First footer widget area
Second footer widget area
Third footer widget area
Fourth widget area
This is all that is on the right.
There is nothing more on the page.
Now I go to edit archives.
This is what is there:Widget Archives
Title:archived posts
display as dropdwon
show post counts
( both ticked)Select both the sidebar for this widget and the position of the sidebar
Side bar position Position
Sidebar widget area select ( it then has 1, 2 or 3 available) I have selected 1. I have also tried, 2 and 3 and it makes no difference which one I select- the widget doesn’t show up on my blog
Then there is a list of positions just like in the right coulmn on the main widget page:
Upper footer widget area, First footer widget area, second footer widget area, and so on.
So:
I have ticked display as drop down, show post counts, sidebar widget area, position 1, then save widget. It goes back to the main widget page and says changes saved. But no widget on my blog is to be seen.
So…I go back again to the Archives widget. The boxes are ticked. I click save changes again, still no widget on my blog.
That is all there is on the pages and all I can do.
Maybe only those who pay premium get active widgets now? I am on the free wordpress.com- maybe that is why???
My browser is Firefox.

What if you do not select 1 or 2 or 3?
Sidebar widget area select ( it then has 1, 2 or 3 available) I have selected 1. I have also tried, 2 and 3 and it makes no difference which one I select- the widget doesn’t show up on my blog
Mine does not have those options. What if you keep it similar to mine and just keep it in the Sidebar Area Widget?
http://pbrd.co/1BaKDV2What if you give it a title “I AM AN ARCHIVES WIDGET TITLE”? so that it may be easier to search for it to find on the site?
-
I don’t have Mainside bar area on my page.
If I untick the nos makes no diffetrence- still does not appear.
Doesn’t matter what I call it as well, tried that too.
The page is inactive.

I don’t know, but I don’t want to change the theme as I really like it. I have another computer- a net book. I will log into my blog on that one and see if if widgets will work on there.
-
@Raincoaster the theme is https://wordpress.com/themes/chateau/
and I know it is set-up for widgets because of the screenshots above were all from that.Try another theme temporarily.
Great idea!
