    Hi there,

    As titled. I typed in “brownkittycat” to search on reader but nothing comes up. Why is that? I tried typing in someone else’s and their blog showed up. Please help! Thanks!

    Connie

    The blog I need help with is brownkittycat.wordpress.com.

    Hello,
    Just a guess, but I wonder if your privacy settings are affecting your visibility..although when I did a Google search for “brownkittycat” your site popped right up..

    Hi man from Mars,

    My privacy settings are set at public. I have no idea why it’s not searchable under reader, by name, tag or category. My blog is quite new actually. I’m not sure if that plays a factor. Although it’s new, it’s published for at least a month already I think. Now nobody will be able to discover my blog randomly on reader :'(

    I’m sorry I can’t be of more help…I’m not any kind of expert…just like to help with questions sometimes.

    You might want to get some help from a WordPress.com moderator at this point, so I added the modlook tag to this thread. Also, you can hope that TimeThief will see your post…she answers tons of questions here, and probably can figure it out.

    Thank you man from Mars. I checked all the guidelines for posting and don’t think I violated anything. It’s just upsetting that I spent so much time on my posts and nobody is reading it…

    I hope someone will reply soon.

    I know it’s frustrating, and I didn’t see anything remotely close to any standards violation on your site. I’m sure it’s some kind of “setup” problem that a moderator can figure out soon.

    Howdy –

    Our system watches for posts that have numerous links in them as this can be a sign of spamming. I’ve approved everything in your setting though and your posts are now showing when I search for ‘brownkittycat’ in my reader.

    Can you see the posts now as well?

    Here is a copy of our advertising guideline for reference if you are ever in question:

    Thank you for tagging this manfrommars :)

    @lizkarkoski Thanks so much for helping with this. I see that brownkittycat is also showing up in *my* Reader.

    Yes thank you for tagging this too manfrommars!

    @lizkarkoski I did read the guideline you provided. So in the future, how do I prevent something like this to happen again? Is there a general rule how many links I can have in a post? Thanks!

    Sorry it’s me again lol…

    I noticed my post is not coming up on reader when I search by some of my tags or categories? And also what determines which post is showing up at the top of reader?

    Thanks again!

    Hi Connie –

    Please clear your browser cache so we can rule that out as an issue. Here are the instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

    Which tag are you searching for? Here is some more information on using Tags in the Reader: https://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/

    And also what determines which post is showing up at the top of reader?

    Do you mean which post is displaying at the top of your reader? Or the tag search results?

    #2854538

    @lizkarkoski

    I just cleared the browsing data on Google Chrome.

    So this is kinda weird, I can find my post if I search by adding a tag “knee high boots” or “crossbody bag” but if I just search in general in the search box those same words, my post isn’t showing up. On the other hand, if I do a general search for “Foreo”, “luna mini 2”, or “facial cleansing device”, my post would show up but it’s not there if I search by adding a tag.

    And I meant how does wordpress determine which posts are displaying at the top of reader by tag or just general search results? I noticed some people’s posts are displayed on top while some are displayed way down on the reader.

    Thank you once again!

    Hi all,

    I’m having the same issues as brownkitty cat. I have made a couple of posts using about 7-8 tags (‘gaming’ for example) and they are not appearing in the WP reader when I look at those tags. I am using the .com WP reader and my blog is hosted by wordpress.com

    The blog in question is https://blackliongamingblog.wordpress.com/

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello luckynum8er7 –

    Our system watches for posts that have numerous links in them as this can be a sign of spamming. I’ve approved everything in your setting though and your posts are now showing when I search for you in my Reader.

    Excessive linking will wind up in the spam filter.

    Let me know if I can help with anything else.

    brownkittycat – Reader search sorts posts based on a combination of factors: content, tags, likes, comments, etc… They are not sorted chronologically. With over a billion posts it is tough to guarantee a match for one tag or search query, unless it is your username. That is truly a unique identifier in our system.

    Hi Lizkarkoski,

    Thank you for looking into this for. I still cannot see my posts appearing under the tags I used I’m afraid. For example I used the tag “Elite Dangerous” today in my recent blog and when I look up the tag in the WP reader, my post does not appear. Does the system think its spam?

    @luckynum8er7

    As @lizkarkoski pointed out, with over a billion posts out there it’s hard to guarantee a match for one tag or search query…especially when it’s a popular term.

    “Elite Dangerous” (which you were wondering about) is a popular video game, so there’s a good chance that any one particular blog post that contains that phrase either in text or in a tag will be lost in the shuffle among thousands and thousands of other sites.

    There’s *so* much competition, and a search engine will often put some posts at the top of the search…and leave out other sites…for a lot more reasons than just the fact that a post or page contains the particular search term.

    Keep working on ways to make your site more popular with more great content, and you’ll have a good chance of being found more often.

    @manfrommars

    Thank you for your reply. I appreciate your response and the points you raised. However when I search the tag ‘elite dangerous’ in the WP reader, it shows me posts from other blogs with 0 followers.

    When I created my latest post I used the categories and tags section to add that specific tag as its kind of niche (elite dangerous has had about 4 posts in the last week)

    Maybe I’m not understanding how the reader works. I thought when you search and follow tags it shows you every single blog post that has been assigned that tag by the creator? I thought this would work, especially with niche tags like the one I’m using.

    I totally understand your frustration. This is the same thing many of us run into when checking our sites on Google, and wondering why some sites that don’t seem important at all rank higher than our sites.

    We can be sure we’ve used every key word correctly…have not over-stuffed things…have appropriate links coming in and going out…relevant content, etc., etc, etc…yet still…some sites that appear to be total junk come up ahead of ours.

    To some degree or another this happens to everyone…and yes, it’s very frustrating.

    It’s a mystery…and it’s been this way for as long as I can remember…and it looks like the Reader search provides the same frustrating results…sorry.

    P.S. Have you read the information on this page, as @lizkarkoski suggested? Maybe there are some clues there:
