My blog post header is not displaying properly!

  1. When I add a featured image to a blog post, two annoying things happen: the font of the blog header automatically changes to white and overlays the featured image AND, in some instances, the header text disappears above the page so only the bottom third is visable (on desktop view).
    How can I:
    a: make the header appear below the featured image
    b: stop the font colour changing, and
    c: ensure the header is visable.

    I have tried not using a Featured image, but then I cannot place an image above the title. If I leave the title blank and make a fake title below an image in the text of the post, then the blog post has no name!
    Arrgh! Am I missing something, surely it shouldn't be this difficult?
    I'm using Gazette theme (as I'm trying to replicate online news articles for a training exercise).
    Thanks

    The blog I need help with is klanndestan.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi nicparham,

    Your site is marked private so I can't see what you're describing.

    If you go to My Site > Settings and change the privacy to Public or Hidden we'll be able to see your site and help you with it.

    It would also be helpful if you could reply with a link to a blog post with a featured image so we can see what you're describing.

    Please keep in mind that some of these changes may require adding custom CSS to your site. You'll need to be on the Premium or Business plan in order to add custom CSS to your site.

  3. Thanks, I’ve changed it to hidden now. Nic

  4. Oh, and this is an example of a page that doesn’t display properly: https://klanndestan.wordpress.com/2017/04/23/drilling-begins-on-property-adjacent-to-klanndestan-gold-mine/ YoursNic_________________________Nic ParhamPavilnio Sodų 11-oji g. 10VilniusLT-11303Lietuva/LithuaniaMobile: +370 673 38996Work: +44 (0)20 3239 7373Skype: nicparham

  5. Thanks for making the site hidden and sending that link.

    It looks like this is happening because the featured image is so short in height. I ran a few tests for you and the featured image appears correctly below the header when a larger featured image is used.

    I'd suggest editing your image outside WordPress.com to increase the height, and using that larger featured image instead.

    the font of the blog header automatically changes to white and overlays the featured image

    Changing the colour of the page and blog post titles would require a Premium or Business plan so that you can add custom CSS to your site.

    If you've upgraded to a Premium or Business plan, you can add the following to My Site > Customize > CSS to change the colour of the post titles:

    .entry-hero .entry-title {
    color: #ffffff;
    }

    You'd replace ffffff with the hex code for whatever colour you'd like the page/post titles to be instead.

  6. Thanks.
    I suspect much of what I'd like to do needs an upgrade to a business plan, but as this is done for training humanitarians there's no budget!

    I'll soldier on as you suggest by editing the headers before uploading them.
