My new blog is redirecting to an old blog - help!

  1. I have a new blog at I had a previous blog at, which had two older blogs redirected to it with Site Redirect upgrades.

Yesterday, I decided to change the redirect on those older blogs from to as I have moved over all the content, but somehow, I messed it up. Now my blog at has started to redirect to, and I can't get it to stop! Please help!

(On a less urgent topic: All this redirecting has gotten me cranky, anyway. As I have imported the content from the old blogs to my new blog, shouldn't search engines be directing readers to the content on the new blog anyway? Is there a better way to have all my old content together and still have it all searchable?)

The blog I need help with is

  2. Hi there!

All your redirects appear to be working right now.

When a domain is registered or altered, there is a process called propagation, where information about the domain name is passed to internet service providers all over the world. This process can take up to 72 hours (though usually much less). During this process you may see errors in your browser when loading your new domain name.

If you still have trouble today with the redirects appearing to go to the wrong site, please try clearing your browser's cache and cookies:

If that doesn't work, try clearing your local DNS cache:

Concerning search engines, they will soon index your content on your new blog. automatically sends notifications to Google with every post and page update. The search engines can take 4-6 weeks or more to add any new sites. For more information about and Search Engines, please see .

It will take a couple of days from the time you created your blog for it to show up in search results with your content. For more information please see .

Hope that helps! Please let me know if you have any more questions.

  3. Thanks for the reply. However, even after clearing cache and cookies, the redirects are not working right at all. Now (which should not be redirecting ANYWHERE) is going to an old blog, I want that blog to redirect TO, not the other way around. And the other old blog ( is now going to Yesterday, those all went to, and that is what I was trying to change. I just wanted everything to go to

Perhaps I should just completely delete all the old blogs and just stick with, which is my new blog. That would be fine... except that it keeps redirecting to other blogs. What should I do now?

  4. Hi Lori,

I see exactly what you mean now!

Before I get the redirects sorted out, can you confirm for me that should be the domain attached to So when the other sites redirect, they should see the content at

  5. Yes, yes, yes! Thank you so much for your help. That is exactly what I intended.

For future reference (and so I don't do this again), I have a couple of questions. a) Can you see what I did wrong? b) Will go to c) Did I do the right thing by buying Site Redirect on the two old blogs, or - since they were already on - could I have just pointed them at for free? This whole process has really confused me. Thanks again for any insight you can give!

  6. Hi Lori! Thanks for confirming that for me.

I've asked our team to help me sort this out so is properly attached to I'm not sure why your mappings and redirects are misbehaving, but it isn't your fault.

We'll get back to you shortly! Thanks for your patience :-)

  7. Hi Lori!

Progress has been made! loads redirects to redirects to loads

Can you confirm that they are working for you too? Thanks!

  8. YES! - loads

    YES! - loads

Not for me! - redirects to

Not for me! - redirects to

I appreciate all your help, but seriously, at this point I feel like I should just kill those blogs, which is ironic since I bought the redirects for them in the first place.

  9. Hi Lori!

Those two redirects that aren't working for you are working here - I know, that doesn't help much! :-)

I wonder if your computer is just caching their old locations.

Domain names get stored on your computer in a "DNS cache" so browsers can load websites faster. Sometimes when a change is made to a domain name, such as your Domain Mapping settings on, the previous website is stored on your computer, and you can't load the new website at the same domain.

These stored domains are usually updated every 48–-72 hours on your computer, but you can force it to update sooner by "flushing" your computer's DNS cache.

You can find instructions on how to flush your DNS cache here:

That should enable you to see the correct site at and at

Let me know how it goes!

  10. Hi Lori,

I just wanted to check in to see if your blogs are loading properly for you now.

Can you see them redirecting as you requested? Please let me know.

  11. No, they are not working. I have cleared the DNS cache and checked them on other computers as well, and these are the results I get:
    breathereleaserepeat is not redirecting (just goes to;
lightenuplori is not redirecting (just goes to
As I mentioned previously, is working and is working.

  12. Hi Lori,

Just wanted to reach out to let you know I am still working on getting your site redirects to work for you.

I removed your site redirects on Friday and recreated them. The redirect for is functioning, but the redirect for is no longer functioning.

We are still working to find out why this redirect isn't behaving as expected, and will get this one solved for you.

Thanks so much for your patience.

  13. Hi Lori!

Thanks for your patience. Our developers have been able to fix the glitch with your site redirects so they are both working now! redirects to redirects to

Thanks so much for your patience. I have bumped forward the expiry for your site redirects so they won't expire in February and instead will expire a year from today.

  14. Thanks so much for your help. I appreciate the extension on the expiration date. It certainly was crazy, but I am glad it is working now!
