My post won't publish

  1. Anyone else having this problem this morning? I have regular, ordinary posts, relatively short, from Word, no unusual embedded images or any links, and they won't publish. The 'attempting to publish' indicator symbol just keeps going around and around and around. Doesn't matter how long I wait; that inability to publish continues. Haven't had this problem before. The pieces are simple cut and pastes from standard Word documents. Thanks!

  2. Add to the problem above another one: I've tried publishing a post again, and now the 'publish' button won't appear green after the text is pasted into the post box. So, now the publish button itself is not available, in essence. Again, are others having this problem or is this just me? Thanks.

  3. I had no problems posting earlier today.

First of all, you say "from Word". Are you using LiveWriter to publish or Word? If Word, then you should be using the "Paste from Word" button in the second row of icons in the Visual Post Editor, otherwise all kinds of junk code gets inserted.

Here's why you shouldn't use Word, or any other word processor

Lastly, what browser and version are you using? Have you tried the troubleshooting tips here?

  4. I was unaware of the paste from Word button. Thank you, and I will try that.

I'm afraid I have to use Word. I'm a writer, and Word is what I use. My posts are currently excerpts or selections from an upcoming self-published book. So the idea of writing the posts in something else just doesn't make sense.

  5. I went to the link you provided, Jennifer, on the visual editor and can find nothing about how to specifically paste from Word.

But if this proves to be as much of a problem as you say, I will have to go find another blog site (like Tumblr) that will take straight Word pastes with no difficulty.

  6. I also don't have a second row of icons in the visual editor. I only have one row.

  7. To make the second row appear, you have to click on the "kitchen sink" icon which is at the end of the top row of icons.

The information about using Word is in the second link I provided.

  8. Never mind. I found it... and will try it now.

  9. If you look at the spacing in your more recent posts, you are already having trouble by copying and pasting directly from Word.

(And it already looks as though you are posting on Tumblr.)

  10. And a new problem. The Paste from Word window only shows up as half a window (the top half, apparently) and there is no means for me to scroll to the bottom of it to press any submit button. This is quite frustrating.

  11. Sigh... I miss my nice, simple Tumblr blog page. Despite the popularity of WordPress, there's just a whole heck of lot on it that either doesn't work, doesn't work right or is counter-intuitive. Certainly it is not in the least user friendly, especially for us 'non-techie' types. Very disappointed. I find it all confusing and awkward, and often impossible to find things that should be simple to find. Anyway, Jennifer, thank you for trying. After a few days on here I'm pretty much done.

  12. You don't see the "Insert" button at the bottom of the Paste from Word window?

Again, what browser and version are you using? I just pasted a very long document in the Paste from Word window and the scroll bar appeared and the Insert button remained at the bottom. I'm using FF15 at the moment.

  13. Okay... I had to use the 'pop out' feature to enlarge the entire posting window.

This is a pain for a simple posting procedure.

  14. Successfully posted. Thanks again, Jennifer. I will be more patient and try to get used to things here.

  15. Also, try ticking the box in Dashboard>Settings>Writing Settings>Formatting that "WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically".

  16. Will do!
