Need help? Check out our Support site, then

My sidebar just disappeared from the front page today.

  1. Two questions.
    1. How could someone do this to my blog? My password has not been shared with anyone.
    2. How can I restore my side bar?

The blog I need help with is talkwisdom.wordpress.com.

  2. I can see your sidebar.

  3. You are using a very old retired theme here http://talkwisdom.wordpress.com/ and there are layout issues that I see.

Let's ask Staff to assist you with sorting this out. I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting. 4. Hi there,

Sidebars and widgets in them do not fall to the bottom and display below posts and/or posts do not appear in sidebars unless

    (1) content has been imported into the blog

    (2) the blogger has been copying and pasting content from elsewhere, without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

    (3) or the blogger has copied and pasted invalid HTML into a text widget or left an HTML tag open

After you go here and enable this > Settings > Writing
    Formatting
_ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
    "save changes"

    For sorting this out see:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/html-troubleshooting/

  5. the blogger has been copying and pasting content from elsewhere, without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

This is correct. @christinewjc, what did you copy this from? It seems to be trying to include header and body layout. Try pasting just the text, as the article @timethief shared recommends. Then you can go back and add images and formatting without altering the site layout.

  6. Thanks to all for your advice. I am not very tech savvy, which is obvious since I have kept an old theme on my blog.

I now have a message about "autosave;" with side by side versions of my post. The one on the left has pink highlights and the other, green highlights as well as several /div written below. I'm just guessing here, but did my deletion of the /div at the end of the post cause the problem with the sidebar? Should I click on the "restore this autosave"?

Just guessing here, but my deletion of the /div

  7. Fixed it! Thank you all for your advice and help! Appreciate it!

    Sincerely,
    Christinewjc

  8. @christinewjc glad you've got it now. Cheers!
