My site isn't loading properly for people
I’ve checked with others elsewhere and they are all having trouble seeing content or loading the site at all.
I’m sorry but that’s simply not enough information for me to even begin to guess what’s happening. Please these people that the following are the troubleshooting steps we take whenever any issues like this arise:
clearing your browser cache and cookies > http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
using the browser with all extensions or add-ons disabled
updating the browser to the latest stable version (not a buggy BETA browser version) http://browsehappy.com/
confirming third party cookies is enabled http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=61416
confirming Flash is updated http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and if required installing the latest version of Flash http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
resetting your router and modem and rebooting your computer
then logging in using the secure https:// log-in see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
trying another browser
If those do not work then:
(1) How they connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers. Also note that the main dashboard isn’t designed to work with touch devices through the tablet and smartphone browsers.
(2) Exactly which browser and version of theme are these people using? If they don’t know they can click here to find out > http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
P.S. I’m using Firefox 13.0.1 on a DSL line and your site loaded with no problems for me.
Thanks for the response. The users who report having trouble are in Australia, so can it be a local issue?
I’ll look into those suggestions.
I’m sorry this is happening to them. Maybe they are all using the same ISP and there are problems ISP and/or with the proxy servers.
Yeah I’ve tried getting there using chrome, iexplorer, and firefox. The loading time, if it actually gets there, is really really slow.
Some of them are in Melbourne and I’m up in Brisbane, quite far from each other.
I’m more editor than website tech, as you can tell!
So you loaded the site quickly with no problems? You could see everything quickly?
No trouble with any other sites, so it seems strange if it would be a ISP issue…
Your blog seems slow. It took 1.07 seconds to generate the page.
Your blog application doesn’t support gzip compression.
It does seem to be a really slow load up for people here in Oz? What can cause a really really slow loading time, or not at all across vast distance like this in general?
Waiting for use.typekit.com is another message I’m getting….
Problems in UK, too, this last 24 hours.
Using Garland template.
In IE8, site title slow to load or not loading at all (using Custom font). Template borked – right column widgets not loading or loading under left column widgets. IE8 has just crashed Windows XP Home with SP2 and rebooted.
In FF12, semi transparent bar intermittently displaying at foot of screen with site name and template name but site name and widgets display correctly.
Interestingly, a long standing incompatibility issue between WordPress/Kaspersky KIS12/FF12 which has meant that images loaded in posts and widgets won’t display for me but will display to others using FF but not KIS 12 has resolved, this morning.
(I am being offered FF13, this morning, but not upgraded yet.)
In Chrome, same semi transparent bar intermittently displays at foot of screen with site name and template name but site name widgets display correctly.
None of the above issues 48 hours ago.
Having trouble with our blog as well (free-procurement.com) in IE, but not FF.
Right-side menu (using links in Widgets) is pushed down to the bottom-left of the blog. Also, “share” buttons not displaying (but links still there).
…Also, when logged into system, the links in the top black bar (e.g. to manage blog, check status, logout, etc.) are all over the place (i.e. not lined up where they’re supposed to be).
I’ve deleted temp internet files, history, etc. and problem persists.
