My text widget feed link is not hot
-
I followed the instructions and I got the subscribe icon in my sidebar via a text widget, but it doesn’t link to my feed. Can someone please tell me how to make my text widget feed link hot?

This is the code I paste in:
<img src=” http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/c28.png
” />This is how seems to be saved:

<img src=””” />Thanks.

If you want to show your feed link:
* Drag a Text Widget to your sidebar
* Open it by clicking the blue lines
* Type the following:
<img src=”image-location” />
* Save the changes
Do not copy and paste the link above! Write it out properly.
That will add a link to your feed. -
My post to the forum did not post as I entered it. The code after “Sometimes it gets saved like this and it doesn’t display the icon:” should look like this:

That code is still not posting as I enter it. There’s more code and it gets chopped off when I send the post.

In order to post code here in the forum and have it display fully you have to place it between backticks. Backticks look like this without the brackets [`]. The backtic key is to the immediate left of the number 1 on your keyboard. It’s lower case and under ~.
Mark has provided the correct code in the FAQs.
You need to do step by step exactly what he says to do. -
I had been copying and pasting so I just tried typing from scratch:
<img src=”http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/c28png” />
The result was I lost the icon but the header, “Subscribe” remains.

Thank you thistimethisspace, it finanally worked. I still don’t know what I did wrong. I’ve been working on this for a couple of hours and I’m certain I tried earlier typing it in from scratch in my process of trial and error. Sorry about not using backticks.
If I may give my 1.5 cents, there is a touch of ambiguity in the instructions (mind you, I do not know HTML from Swahili). If the line, “Here are some you can link to” were replaced with this line, “You can replace “”image-location”” in the code above with the one of the lines below:”, it would have saved me about an hour of time. Also, when the instructions state, “Do not copy and paste the link above!”, my first thought was to type every character in from scratch, but my second thought was that maybe I was just being reminded to replace “your-blog-name” and “image-location”. Anyway, thanks again.

I’m sorry the process seemed obtuse to you and I feel your frustration. Staff do read these threads and I’m sure Mark will consider what you have contributed for future inclusion in the FAQs. I’m so glad to hear that this worked for you in the end. Happy blogging! :)
