  1. I purchased my domain name from and then got a self-hosted blog. GoDaddy is my web host. I want to transfer my domain name from to GoDaddy. I need to do this quickly because the domain name is about to expire.

    Yesterday I tried numerous times to login to my domain manager control panel and I kept getting an error message that said the username or password were incorrect. I tried changing the password numerous times until I was finally locked out of the account for too many failed login attempts.

    This morning, a Happiness Engineer unlocked the account for me.
    I tried to login a couple of times this morning and I am still getting the error message that says that my username or password is incorrect. I am afraid to keep trying because I don't want the account to get locked again.

    In addition, there is another error message on my account that says that my DNS needs to be updated. It says:

    Using the DNS tools provided by your domain registrar, remove any existing nameservers and add the following:

    However, I am not able to login to my domain manager to change the nameservers OR to transfer my domain name. And I am not certain if I SHOULD change the nameservers at this time since I am trying to transfer the domain name to GoDaddy.

    I am completely frustrated with this. Can someone at WordPress please help me ASAP? Thank you!

  2. Hi Rachel,

    Have you change your domain manager password and confirmed your customer number. From your Store->Domains page, you can change the password and your customer number (login ID) is displayed, like this:

    In your case though, if you're not hosting your site on, but using a different host, then you do not need to change your nameservers. That would change where your domain name sends folks.

    I'm going to ask our store team to look over the messages because, I agree, it's confusing on why your nameservers are an issue.

  3. That is exactly where I have changed my password repeatedly. I have copied and pasted my customer number onto the domain manager login page and entered a new password (after saving it) repeatedly. I still keep getting the error message that says my username or password is incorrect. I think something must be wrong with my account.

  4. While I look into that, is there anything you need done at the moment?

    My understanding is you don't need to change nameservers (unless I misunderstood something). I'd like not to delay you anymore.


  5. I need access to my domain name on WordPress to generate a code that is needed so that I can transfer my domain name from to GoDaddy.

    I need to do this as soon as possible because the process takes about two weeks to complete and my domain name is set to expire in 18 days.

    I was able to login with a reset password for the domain manager. I've requested the authorization code to be sent to the e-mail address listed on your account, which should arrive soon.

    Please check your spam folder, as well as any "tabs" if you use Gmail ("Social", "Updates", etc).


  7. I copied and pasted the authorization code into the password box on the login screen and copied and pasted my customer number. I still got the error message again that says that my username or password are incorrect.

  8. The authorization code from the e-mail is what you give to your new registrar—it isn't the password. If you're transferring your domain to a different service, proceed with a new transfer. They'll ask you for the authorization code during the process.

  10. Once the domain is transferred, you won't need that panel any longer.

    I can't find an issue with it. Using the form at, I was able to change the password, then login with the customer number provided.

  11. Thank you so much for your help. I have successfully initiated the transfer of my domain name from WordPress to GoDaddy using the authorization code that you sent me.

    FYI, I thought I would try using a different browser to see if I could login to my domain name control panel (Firefox instead of Internet Explorer) and I was successful in logging in!

  12. Thanks for the info. I haven't heard of issues with Internet Explorer, but I'll test it out using a computer with IE on it.
