Need easy instructions on how to put a photo and link on my side bar.

  1. I'm so frustrated at this process. I would love to link a photo of a product I use everyday with a different website. I don't understand the directions, and it's so confusing. I want to be able to delete a photo of a phone my husband put on my blog site, but I don't understand how. If someone could help me with step-by-step instructions, I would really appreciate it.

The blog I need help with is

  2. You cannot post advertising on your blog here at There is only one advertising program called WordAds at and it’s for blogs on their own domains. Aside from a blog being accepted into WordAds no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by Paid content and/or sponsored content is not allowed.

On free hosted blog we can use a contact form and/or a PayPal button for sale of only products or services created or provided by ourselves.

There is no upgrade you can purchase from that changes any of that. If you do require an ecommerce site, advertising, affiliate links, paid or sponsored content you can hire a web host and get a free software install from

  3. I'm not trying to post advertising other than using my Amazon affiliate link. I have one on my blog already. I just want to list the products that have made a difference in my life and a link to my upcoming book through Amazon. I just need simple instructions on how to do the process but apparently there are no simple instructions.

  4. There must be a real blog and not just pseudo posts designed to drive traffic to third party sites. The only exceptions to the no affiliate links policy are found here in italics:

Blogs that violate our advertising policy or fall into one of the following categories are not allowed on
Affiliate marketing blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of driving traffic to affiliate programs and get-rich-quick schemes (“Make six figures from home!!”, “20 easy steps to top profits!!”, etc). This includes multi-level marketing (MLM) blogs and pyramid schemes. To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category. Here is a thread in the support forums that talks more about which affiliate links are OK or not OK.

  5. First of all I'm violating any rules. Amazon affiliate links are allowed. I've read the rules and I am following the rules. My blog is not about health & wellness tips. What I want to do is find easy, simple instructions on how to link my book when it gets to Amazon next week to my website. My book, I know that Amazon is alright to use with WordPress, I've already checked that out.
I am just looking for a simplified version of instructions on how I can put a link to Amazon for my book and a couple of health products I purchase from Amazon. I already an Amazon Affiliate. But I don't understand how to do this process. Instead of telling me that I'm doing something wrong, it would be nice to get some help. I wish I could talk to someone on the phone. This process is simply frustrating.

  6. Did you read this?
The software strips out affiliate links.
Did you read what I posted above at

and a couple of health products I purchase from Amazon

Posting links to products you do not create personally is a volition of the ToS.

  7. So what you're saying is that I can't use wordpress for any Etsy or Amazon links at all. This doesn't make sense. I write a book, and I can't put a link to it on my page. Seems like I'll be shopping around for a new blog site.

  8. So what you're saying is that I can't use wordpress for any Etsy or Amazon links at all. This doesn't make sense.

No it doesn't (and timethief isn't WP staff). Of course you can link to your Etsy shop, or to an Amazon page for a book you've written (or to an Amazon page for a book that's written by someone else). You only violate the ToS if your blog is designed exclusively or primarily for driving traffic to other sites, or if it includes links to pay-per-click schemes etc, or if it includes ads you get paid for, and so on.

To remove the phone image, go to Appearance > Widgets, open the Image widget you'll see in the Sidebar section, click Delete.

To create an image link, you copy the image to your computer, upload it to your blog via Media > Add New, click Edit once it's uploaded, and copy its address from the "File URL" field of the Save module; then you go to Appearance > Widgets, drag an Image widget to Sidebar, paste the image address in the "Image URL" field, paste the webpage address in the "Link URL" field, save.

  9. Thank you so much! That's exactly what I needed. Just step-by-step instructions. That was so easy!
