    Hi,

I am new to wordpress, trying to create a blog which has the following features:

    1. User sign-in using their email id’s
    2. Receive posts to registered email id’s when i post a new article.
    3. Only registered users can post comments.

Can any one please help me which theme to be used or how do i start bringing in these pieces?

    -Prashanth

The blog I need help with is aroundembedded.wordpress.com.

Hi there. This type of site is not possible on WordPress.com. The closest you can get to this is to set your site to private. Then only people you specifically invite will be able to read and comment on your blog: http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

Otherwise you’ll need to set up a self-hosted blog on your own domain using WordPress.org. There you’ll be able to install the plugins needed for this type of site. See here for more information: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

For help with your self-hosted site and installing plugins on it, please post in the WordPress.org forum as we cannot help you with that here, the two platforms being completely separate and different: http://wordpress.org/support/ If you don’t already have a username on that forum, click the register button in the upper right corner so you can post in that forum.

http://flashdba.com/ is a WordPress.com site (i.e. not self-hosted). I see it’s running the Enterprise theme, which no longer appears to be available on WordPress.com, and the Enterprise theme on WordPress.org looks completely different. You can search the WordPress.org theme directory for a theme that will suit your needs. https://wordpress.org/themes/

I am bit lost here. As i have installed WordPress in Hostgator, does it belong to wordpress.org? I meant how do i know if i have to post in wordpress.org or .com?

In my case, how do i make it wordpress.com site? For wordpress.com site, can i have my own domain linked to it?

http://embeddedexp.com/ is a WordPress.org site. If your host is anything else than WordPress.com (Hostgator in your case) then it’s self-hosted. So for help with that site you need the WordPress.org forums.

If you want to move it to WordPress.com, you’ll first need to create a free WordPress.com address (or use http://aroundembedded.wordpress.com/ that you already have). Then you import your content from the self-hosted site to the WordPress.com site.

Next, you have to buy the domain mapping upgrade to connect the WordPress.com site to your domain, and finally, cancel your hosting account with Hostgator. (The domain registration has to stay with them, so you pay them each year for the domain, and WordPress.com for the mapping, but you don’t have to pay them for hosting as well.)

Complete details on moving to WordPress.com and the domain mapping upgrade here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Keep in mind that on WordPress.com you will have more restrictions than on a self-hosted site, for example not being allowed to use advertising, and not being able to install custom themes, etc. On the other hand, your hosting is free and you don’t have to worry about stuff like site security and software upgrades. It’s all outlined in the com vs org document I linked for you earlier.
