Need to transfer a theme and a blog to a new domain

  • So my client has a blog with a lot of content on it. She wants to create a website for her consulting business. On the website she wants the blog and all of its content to be a sub-section. We bought a new domain name but we accidentally applied the theme to the existing blog rather than the new domain. We want to do two things here that we aren’t exactly sure how to do.

    1) We want to transfer (or re-apply) the theme from the blog to the new domain we just purchased.

    2) We want to transfer all the blog content into the new website as a sub-section without breaking any of the links (if possible). (from missrosen.wordpress.com to missrosen.com/blog

If anyone could tell us whether or not this is possible and how to go about doing this you’ll be a lifesaver.

    thanks in advance,

    Tom

  • Hi Tom,

You won’t be able to use missrosen.com/blog, but you’ll be able to use blog.missrosen.com without any issues. Here’s a support article that shows you how:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/

If you use domain mapping, your links will also stay intact.

Please feel free to post back if you have any further questions!

  • 1) Nope. External themes cannot be used on WordPress.com. Only themes visible on the dashboard Themes page can be used here.
