new blog: says name already taken, but a search reveals it doesn't exist

Signing up for a new blog, with the name Response is that this name is already taken. But a search under that name reveals that nothing under that url exists. Is it possible to root out the issue so that I can in fact use this blog name? If so, how? Thanks!

The blog I need help with is

The blog already exists, so you can’t have that URL. You’ll need to choose a different URL, as it already exists and unless you can contact the owner and get them to transfer it to you (staff won’t give out contact details, you can try contacting them via a comment).

Thanks, I wish it was clearer how to even comment on that particular blog, so barebones, only appears to be a search function.

The 404 front page error was caused by the blog Admin deleting the placeholder post.

There is no expiration date on blogs unused or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own with the owner of an unused blog then there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account.

In the case that there is no contact information Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.

If you are not successful, you can register another blog with a similar name.

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying address is.
