new parent category won't "stick".

  1. I am trying to create a new parent category. I have gone to the categories page, under posts, put the new name in, then "none". Then hit add category. It will then show up in my categories list (although it doesn't look "different" from the subcategories for another parent that it sits beneath. But when I go to edit the first post I want to have appear under it, the new parent is nowhere in sight in the category choice list. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I have read and re-read the category help pages, but can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

The blog I need help with is themonstachronicles.com.

  2. Go to edit the post, create the category there, update the post, and then set it as parent.

  3. I just tried this, and it seems to default to my other parent category when I go to update. Is it possible that I have mis-created something in categories that is getting in the way? It's so frustrating!

  4. Wow! I did it. You got me thinking about where else the solution might lie, and I went to the widget area under appearances. There I found that I coulddrag another category over to the sidebar, and tried that. Voila! I went to my post and tried to save it, and it worked. One lovely second parent in my sidebar with my new post exactly where I wanted it. Thanks you so much for your help. Yay!

  5. You're welcome!
