Just wondering when we can expect new themes to be an option for our blogs. It has been at least two months since new themes were available, and it would be nice if someone could provide some information as to when we may expect this to change.
hear hear! i really miss trying on those new themes like one tries on clothes. but obviously whatever wp is doing right now it’s for the betterment and convenience of wp users, so just keep up the good work!
I believe that Matt and the WP folks indicated requests for specific themes are to be sent through feedback.
This isn’t a request for a specific theme, it was a request for information that I’m sure many others have an interest in as well. In my mind, posting the question in the theme forums seemed the best place to ask and respond to this type of information.
I would like to see new themes as well. *cough* Especially since other WPMU sites have more now :)
What TT mentions is that specific requests for specific themes should be going into Matt and crew via the feedback as they have stated a few times that that is how they are keeping track of such requests. The general request to put more themes into the system here is fine.
Do remember though that that page with those theme graphics is huge though. I know we’ve had a few complaints about it already. (Why theme designers use png’s in there, I have no clue…)
I went to daria be and laid eyes on “autumn street” IMO a sweet theme with 3 areas for widget insertion – cool! This template has the “look” I very much desire. So does it have a “sideblog” plug in that allows for comments too? [Be still my beating heart.:D]
I don’t think so….
I found Michael Martine’s site and read about autumn street. It has a very fat footer in three sections where widets can be used for whatever the blogger desires. It does not have a sideblog. But now I have questions for you drmike.I noticed it has a forum as well as blogs. Is daria be a site for your business clients only? If not who is it for?
I like Michael’s stuff but I had to make a few changes to the theme to get it to work fully. (Like put in the function call for the footer.) I’ve been looking at other themes and how they work with MU and widgets.
It’s an open site for anyone’s use. It is seperate from my hosting company and is currently located within a hosting account that I have away from my servers. (For certain legal reasons concerning my ex, I do not currently host my own personal sites) I may move them back onto my servers in teh near future though.
The forums are actually there for my other projects as well as I was testing a method for WordPress Multiuser to work with phpBB.

And a suggestion of “paging” the theme page to say… three themes per has been sent. However that and the many requests for all themes to include the contact plugin have been ignored this far.

Why not write them yourself and send them in? :)
You know they don’t have to take and use every suggestion. Forms are a security risk.

We have to, it’s part of the spec. If it’s not screenshot.png it won’t be displayed. You’d have to ask Matt why he went for .pngs, but my guess is it’s because .gifs are proprietary and .jpgs are lossy.
As regards the absence of new themes, I’d imagine they’ve been far too busy moving data halfway across the country to think about fripperies like that ;)
Actually you can use *.jpgs in there already. Some of Michael’s (and a few others) themes didn’t include any screen shots and I did them myself.
Adding themes are a pain as you have to go through and double check the code. And some of them still don’t support widgets…
Some are five seconds though. :)
A few. :)
Having just dug looking for a theme that allows a 480 pixel wide graphic to display without mucking it up for the webcomic, I fully now agree that we need some wider themes. :)
Oh, yes, another vote for new themes. Some funky ones and some elegant romantic ones for the ladies please.
