New website on existing account

  1. Hi! I'm about to start working with a client who wants to keep their current premium plan website live while we build out a new site and they don't want to buy a second premium plan since the new website will replace the current one. Website build should take 3-4 months… what are their options? – Tara

The blog I need help with is northstardesignstudio.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi Tara,

they don't want to buy a second premium plan since the new website will replace the current one.

A plan is only valid for one site, so it's not possible to use it across two sites at the same time.

One option is to create another WordPress.com site in the same account and mark it as private while you work on it. When the site is ready to go live, you can contact us and we can move the plan to the new site.

Come back to me if you have any questions.

  3. If we mark it as private, will we be able to set-up and test any/all features available from all the plans?

  4. Why not to install your new blog on a subdomain? It looks like this is the best solution for your case

  5. Hi Tara,

If we mark it as private, will we be able to set-up and test any/all features available from all the plans?

Marking your site as private will not affect which features you can use. However, you won't be able to use the plan features until it is moved over to the new site. With the Free plan, you can still add posts and pages and customize your site to a certain degree.

Mapping a subdomain wouldn't give you access to the plan on another site, so it would still be better to create a private site.
