Newbie here–have questions about widgets, footers and the site
-
I’ve created a Home page, and also obtained my domain name. I want to download an Etsy mini (which I believe is a widget and it has code?) to my Home page, but it’s not working. Only part of the text from the mini appears, and I copy it from Etsy and paste it into the Edit box, under the Text mode. I’ve also used the Code on/off switches, pasting the text between, and still I get the same problem. Could it be that Etsy is not allowing this? Help.
Also, I just paid for a premium package, and I’m seeing advertising in the footer on my home page. Can this be removed, or is it part of what I paid for?
Finally, is my site a true “site” or a wannabe site that’s a blog? An answer would certainly clear things up for me.
thanks all!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That is a JavaScript widget which we cannot use for security reasons. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#javascript There is no upgrade that will allow you to post JavaScript, iframes, forms or other restricted codes. To use that widget you would have to hire a web host and set up your own WordPress.org install.
What many of us have done is simply take a screenshot of our Etsy shop or favorites and added it to our sidebars in a text widget. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-and-where-to-post-the-etsy-mini-code?replies=4#post-937853

It does not matter that you have purchased a Premium upgrade. Removal of footer credit links is a Terms of Service violation.
Though removing footer credit links, which leads to the untrue assumption that you designed the theme and your are hosting your blog is not allowed, it’s possible to add your own text to the footer area using CSS if you have purchased the Premium bundle of upgrades containing the Custom Design upgrade. Then you can include styling credit if you have done any unique styling and/or include a copyright notice.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/If you have purchased that upgrade please use this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform so you can copy and paste your text into a thread that will appear in the CSS Forum where you will get the help you need.
Added info:
If all you want to include is a copyright many bloggers do that by including a copyright notice in a text widget.

A blog is a website.
A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.
What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds, and as others do not backlink to pages, it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/

Thank you so much for the answers! I’m going to study them and do the steps you’ve outlined. You’ve been very helpful and clearly explanatory.

Here is the thing; some templates allow us to use CSS to hide the footer, others do not. The ones that do not seem to be newer themes. If it is possible to remove it from some, it should be possible to remove it from all, and vice versa. I just purchased two Premium packages and was able to remove the footer on one site and not the other.
-
I think I’ll leave it on there as it was mentioned above that removing it could cause a TOS violation. And I’m not familiar with CSS to mess around with it. I just thought that the advertising would go away when we purchased a premium package.

Removing or hiding the footer credits on ANY theme is not allowed at all at WordPress.COM and your blog will be suspended if you do – even the VIP accounts that start at $20,000/year are required to have the footer credits intact
