Offensive ads showing on my blog to stop them from appearing?

  1. thedogwalkinggardener

I find some of the ads that pop up on my blog quite offensive and demeaning towards women. How can I block these ads? I'm seriously considering creating a blog on another program if these keep up.

Thank you for any information out there.

The blog I need help with is

  2. You can address this easily and immediately. The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade. has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.

  3. If you aren't willing to purchase a No-Ads upgrade and you feel an ad is inappropriate please take a screenshot of it and post into this thread again after you have uploaded into your Media Library where Staff can examine it.

HI .. that is a surprise, I've been blogging for nearly 2 years and only saw the ads appear a month or so ago. Where would I have seen the ads before a few months ago?

I've been trying to paste the screenshot, but not able to do. (print screen, copy, paste isn't working)

The ad I am referring to is about a dating service.

    thank you

  5. I flagged this thread for Staff attention. Do be aware that what you and I may consider to be offensive may not be what the majority consider to be offensive at all. These days there are ads that offend me and that's why I purchased a No-Ads upgrade.

    thank you ...

Glad I found this thread here. I was informed today by one of my blog subscribers/followers that ads appeared on my most recent blog. I wasn't aware of this. I've since checked but can't see them from my end. I'm not doubting the reader. They've sent me proof and they are ads I'd never want appearing on my blog. Is the only way to prevent this to buy the No-Ads Upgrade? And how is this possible? Someone else reading seeing my blog sees them, but I don't. Thanks for any light you can shed.

Please read what I posted above here so I don't have to type it again >

You know I went back and reread...sorry to have missed...Just having a bit of split attention (small child at home). Got it from your replies above. Thanks!

  10. Not to worry. I have days like that too. :)

  11. If you're seeing ads below your post, usually videos, these are from us and you'll need a No Ads upgrade to remove them. We always do our best to keep these family friendly, but if you see any that aren't, please take a screenshot and upload it via Media -> Add New so we can take a look.

If you see offensive banner ads that say "Ads not by this Site" below them, they aren't from us. Those are added by a corrupt browser add-on or extension, and you need to disable each one to find the cause.

    Thanks, Timethief!
Thanks, macmanx for the additional info.
Apparently the ads appearing are YouTube or
videos of ads ( macdonalds beef growers, menopause
treatments, etc). They are located underneath my
sign off and copyright blurb, and just above where I have
a comment / widget. So people are thinking oh this
video was posted by me as part of my blog. I'm trying to
get person who saw it (a non Wp user), to take a screenshot.
In any case, thanks for all your help and Timethief above.

  13. Yes, the ads you're describing are from us.

To support the service (and keep free features free), we sometimes run advertisements, and the agreement for this has been in our terms of service since 2006.

We try hard to only run them in limited places. If you would like to completely eliminate ads from appearing on your blog, we offer the No-Ads Upgrade:

HI .. I tried to copy the ad, but not able to .. below the ad, it shows: ads not by this site. So from that, I understand that these are not WordPress ads.

The ads show what I would consider as porn, and I don't believe that WP would carry them on the site.

  15. Yes, those are definitely added by a corrupt browser add-on or extension.

If you start disabling each one, you should find the cause.

    Thank you for clarifying!

  17. You're welcome!

    Hi macmanx .. thank you!

I've found out that I'm ok if I use Google Chrome or Firefox I won't get those ads ..... so I'm using Firefox and no more creepy ads!

    thank you!!!

  19. You're very welcome!

It's probably a corrupt add-on or toolbar in IE, so if you get a chance, you may want to find out which one so you can delete it for good.

  20. thedogwalkinggardener

thank you .. is there an easy way to do this or am I better off to take my computer in to have it done?

  21. You shouldn't need to pay for this. Here are some instructions. As with many computer functions, it's not necessary to fully understand the instructions to follow them and solve the problem.

  22. thedogwalkinggardener

thank you so very much, I'll check these links ..

I went to tools, toolbar extensions and then in Shockwave flash object, publisher, Adobe Systems Inc. – I disabled that, and "I Want This App" – I disabled that too. Now I don't see the ads.

I certainly do appreciate everyone's assistance, particularly raincoaster .. I'm not really computer literate so these add-ons questions will really help me on that!!!

:) So happy that I don't see those sad ads any more!!

  23. Congratulations. People who make add-ons like that should be in prison in my opinion.

  24. thedogwalkinggardener

I totally agree .. they are just disgusting and degrading.

Thank you again, I love having my lovely plain computer back again. I copied all that information about add-ons and now have a 3 page document for future reference!

  25. elanahalberstadt

Thanks again for the great support here. I've upgraded to no-ads. Cheers and best wishes to all.

  26. You're welcome and best wishes for happy blogging! :)
