Old Gravatar still shows in social media link preview, how to correct that?

  1. Hello,
When sharing a link of my blog on social media, the preview shows my old header image / gravatar instead of my new one :S
I tried every thing, deleted the old picture from everywhere (header, account, profile, library, Gravatar...) but it's still the one that shows in the preview when I share any link of my blog on Fb or twitter.
At this link you can see the old that still shows:
While the new one is right there on my blog since more than 24 hours:
How can I resolve this problem?
    Thanks in advance

The blog I need help with is

  2. Sorry but we have no control over the images that Facebook or Twitter chooses to display or when they choose to flush their image caches. We really only send them the URL of the post, and they hunt through that for the excerpt and images to include. From:

  3. Thanks for your reply
The thing is that I had already deleted the old flavicon and uploaded the new one before sharing on FB, but the link of the image that shows in the preview is clearly coming form Gravatar as you can see:
Does it mean that the old one is still somewhere on my Gravatar account?

  4. If it's coming from your Gravatar account then please login and address the issue there.

  5. Done. They say they cache Gravatars. Here's from their so called contact form, it might help answering people with the same problem:

"- I changed my gravatar, but I still see my old one on sites. What happened?
    - We cache your gravatars for periods of time, which means that your new gravatar will take effect after the old one expires from the cache. The reason we do this is to be able to serve your (and indeed everybody's) gravatar images much more quickly and reliably."

How long does it last? No answer, and there's no possibility to contact them or post a question like here. Not cool...

    Thank you anyway

  6. What do you mean there's no possibility of contacting them? That's not true. Use this link which is at the bottom of the very page you refer to

  7. Already did, this is where I've got the previous answer along with other suggested answers to some related topics, but there's no way to go further.
At the bottom of the page, after the suggested answers, they tell you very politely that if you didn't find an answer you should rephrase your question.
This is the message in French (being in France, I'm directly oriented to the French version):
"Si votre recherche ne produit pas le résultat escompté, utilisez d'autres termes"
    This is really frustrating...

  8. Well then I suppose all you can do is patiently wait for the image caches to be flushed.

  9. Came here to looking for help after I changed my gravatar icon connected to my primary email - but now it does not show up - the old one still displays on my hovercard..

I read here that Gravatar makes you wait till the old image is flushed from the cache. Hmm.... a recall two years ago the new gravator icon was replaced instantly.

  10. Thanks in advance for any other suggestions :-)

  11. Oh, hey ho, what do I see.... my new gob ! Well, I guess problem solved, another happy end!
Thanks for the trouble of reading my now redundant post.

  12. I went into my Gravatar account and found that I could locate and remove previous images I had uploaded. Have you done that?

  13. Hello timethief --

Yes I have done that. But already before I had decided to remove them, my newly uploaded photo which I had already designated as my new icon, showed up.

  14. Cool! Have a happy weekend. :)

  15. My weekend is over, 1 am, Monday already, but I plan on having a happy week - wish you the same! :-)

  16. It's still Sunday here off the far west cost of British Columbia. My Canada Day is about to happen tomorrow. Hooray!

  17. cost = coast :(

  18. I just clicked on your username - and wow, you have this blog devoted to WordPress techy stuff and also guidelines and things etc.
I'll dive into that asap - thanks !

    Mabel A.

  19. Yes, I have a blogging tips blog and I also have a personal blog too. :)

  20. @ abousal3a, it is very likely that your previous Gravatar image was still cached somewhere in the system. If you are still having trouble with this, can you please try disconnecting and reconnecting your Facebook connection?

If you continue to have trouble with this issue, please let me know!
