One category can not be deleted
Since I write my blog entirely in Swedish I want to remove the English category name “Memoirs”. I can not do this on the Posts/Categories page, because the delete function for just that category is – deleted. Why? And what can I do, except manually remove Memoirs from every single post?
My blog: gymbrat.wordpress.com
The blog I need help with is gymbrat.wordpress.com.
The default category cannot be removed. Here’s the link to the documentation http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/category-management/
Thank you. Oh, I had read all of that documentation before I asked. I had assumed that “Uncategorized” was my default category since it was provided by the system.
I have not found a way to alter my default category from being “Memoirs” to one of the others. Is that so? Am I now stuck with the category “Memoirs” because that was the name I first assigned when I started?
Also, the bulk change function for a post allows me to add categories for a given post, but I can not figure out how to remove a category from a given post. Is that possible to do?
What I am trying to do is to remove the category “Memoirs” from my blog, since it is intended for Swedish readership, and I am therefore using another category named “Memoarer”.
You cannot bulk remove categories from posts. You will have to do it one at a time.
If you go to settings > writing and set another category as a default (it has to be one that exists in the pulldown) then click save changes then you can delete the category “memoirs.”
Thank you so much – your pointing to settings > writing did the trick. Strange that I never saw it in the “Support” information – maybe it was not mentioned there.
I think I should mention that the deletion of the unwanted category took an inordiate amount of time, between 5 and 10 minutes. I had just about given up when it was finally completed.
I think I am up on all I need to know for now. Again, thank you!
