One of my entries has mysteriously disappeared

  1. I had an entry on my blog entitled "Roasted Beet Salad with Goat Cheese and Candied Pecans." It's gone. But I can see remnants of it here and there on the web.

I didn't delete it myself. Can anyone tell me what might have happened? I'm worried there may be other posts that are gone as well that I haven't discovered yet. Are there any backups done automatically? Or should I be doing that myself?

The blog I need help with is

  2. Oh no! That sounds like very bad news.
If the post was created on the dashboard of your own blog at Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New then you ought to be able to recover a lost post or page from revisions if needs be.
See also if applicable > restoring from trash

(If you are referring to a Page then see here >

    I recommend:
Always create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New
Always allow pages to fully load before clicking any other links.
Use an offline blog editor so you have backups on your own computer

  3. Thanks. It's not in the trash. If it ever was, I guess it would have been permanently deleted after 30 days.

I can't find any revisions because the page no longer exists in my archives. It's like it was never there.

I can find places where people linked to it on pinterest, but of course the links are now dead.

  4. This is very weird. I'll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  5. Thanks. The post itself is a couple years old I think, don't know if that'll make it more difficult to track down.

  6. I tried using Google search for this exact string:
Roasted Beet Salad with Goat Cheese and Candied Pecans

I could not locate a cached copy.

  7. Me neither but it used to be there.

  8. This is a long shot but have you tried omnisearch in your dashboard?
If that comes up empty then the wayback machine is next and it does not look promising.*/

  9. You haven't recently installed anything called a "code cleaner" on your browser or computer, have you? We have heard of rare cases where it deletes blog posts from oldest to newest.

  10. I haven't installed anything like that that I'm aware of. And it didn't delete the oldest post.

Timethief I see the entry in the oldest wayback capture, I think I can rebuild from there. I may have the original photos still on my machine. Maybe if I use the same title the new page will reconnect with the old, broken links.

Thanks for your help on this guys.

  12. From our records, it looks like that post was deleted on Sept. 24, 2013. It's not recoverable at this time, unfortunately.

I'd love to see it if you can recreate it, as I had a wonderful roasted beet and goat cheese dish at a local restaurant last week. I could probably make it on my own, but it would be great to see your recipe. :)

  13. Here you go. Rebuilt from the wayback machine. Original photos were still in my account.

    Thanks everyone!

  14. Glad it's working now. And thanks for the link... I need to try out that recipe! :)
