One post per page, but several in categories display?

  1. Hello,
I would like my blog to display only one post per page (it's a poetry blog), but at the same time, I would like it to list all (or at least some) of the posts in a list, when a category is selected through the categories widget or a month through the archive widget.

I have fiddled around with the settings, but both properties seem to be linked and I cannot change the number of posts displayed only when only the posts themselves are display (the main blog function)

I'm quite the newbie on wordpress and blogging in general, so I hope this all made sense to you.

  2. Can you give us the URL of your blog? I'm thinking that might be theme related.

  4. Of course,
    the url is:

it's currently set to 1 post per page

  5. I'm using ChaoticSoul theme

  6. Try going to the Design page and playing around with different themes in the Preview (you click the theme to preview it). Do NOT press "Activate" though until you've found one that works the way you want it to. In the Preview you're able to click to get category pages and you can see if it gives you more than one.

Let us know if that works for you.

  7. Thank you for taking the time.
Now, I've tried ten different themes, but it was always the same.

  8. Then I guess we both learned that's just how it is. Strange, actually. Once things have calmed down from the upgrade and bug fixing madness, you might want to suggest to staff they change that.

  9. Or, you can try this. create a new page.
    Open a new text widgit.
Then copy your daily updates to the new page created. This has to be done manually but only takes about 20 seconds (Hey, no snickers about how fast I am!!!!)

You can see this in action on my blog here.

Notice the category widgit on the right and the page links included.

Click on any of those links and it takes you to a page that lists each blog update one at a time. Here is an example.

Now all you have to do is after you write a new entry, copy and paste the unique URL of that post and enter it on your new page. Select the save link and you are done.

    I hope this helps.

  10. Ah, that works. Thanks for the workaround!

  11. Oh forgot. Once you open the new widgit, add all your new page URL's by using the simple html link code. (a href="http://YOUR PAGE HERE")Your Page Title Here(/a)
NOTE: replace the ( symbol with the < arrow wherever you see them in the string above. Make sure the arrows are pointing the correct way. <>

  12. I'm bet I'm not the only one out there that displays just one post at a time, but wishes that more than one would appear when somebody clicks on a category.

Is this the only way to display multiple posts within a category or archive, via a manual update after each post on another page?

If category / archive displays weren't tied to the Loop (heck, maybe they're not?), then we could display them independently, but how? TIA.

  13. bump

  14. No if the theme has a category.php it overrides the index loop, so you can basically have it do whatever you want. It all depends on how well you can read the documentation given on and your knowledge of php and the skys the limit.
