Is there a widget that I can add to my site that says when I am online? I thought I had seen one at wordpress, but now I can not find it!
    Thanks!

There is not a widget. But one can web surf for that type of thing. Then take the html code, and place it in a text widget. Just search for programs without javaascript, as that can’t be used on WordPress. Maybe someone will come along and tell ya what they found on the net, that works?

I believe the Meebo widget will do that.

Hey thanks raincoaster. While I knew it existed, I have no idea what meebo is or does. But I thought it was kind of like instant messaging. :P

The only chat widget allowed on wordpress.com blogs at this time is the meebo widget.

The code is obtained from going to the meebo website http://www.meebome.com/ and registering there. It’s 3 step process to create your sidebar widget and setup an account with them. After the 3rd step there will be a box to copy the code you need to put into your sidebar widget.

    1. Log into your WP admin -> Presentation -> Widgets. Drag the Meebo Widget from the bottom Available widgets box and drop it into your Sidebar box.
    2. In the top right hand corner of that widget is an edit button that brings up the editor for that widget where you will need to copy the code that you got from Step 3 at meebome.com
    3. After you have pasted the code in just close the widget and click “Save Changes”.

Meebo is a web-based instant message service that lets users of major IM services chat in a browser window. This widget will let your blog visitors chat with you privately without requiring you to give out your IM identities. To make this widget work, you must go get some HTML code and then paste it below.

Does this person want chat? I thought they just wanted an online thing showing who’s visiting their blog? Are people allowed to have that?

    #306632

Thanks! I don’t want to chat, I just want other bloggers to know when i am online.

LOL, I obviously can’t read this evening. I see that he says, “when I am online.” Thanks for chiming in Raincoaster and Timethief.

There’s nothing that does one without the other. The Meebo widget is the only one around that shows when you’re online. The only one that works at WP.com.

Thanks for the detailed instructions, TT.

The only way to let your readers know whether or not you are online and working on your wordpress.com blog is to post the meebo widget in your sidebar. Raincoaster already made that clear and I provided the instructions. It’s a wrap folks. Moving on …

The problem is, you need to be signed in to meebo to be shown as online. If you’re just on wordpress, it doesn’t make a difference.
