Oxygen: Showcase Template

  1. I am new to WP and a bit confused. I love the oxygen template and the lovely featured photos in the slider. I am trying to figure out how to get the large, feature image on my page but having no luck. I tried following the instructions provided on the theme information page, but I must not be doing something right. Now my project ideas page is the same as my front page? I just want my most recent post (searching for inspiration) to be featured with a large photo! Any help would be great!

The blog I need help with is

  2. Finally figured it out! Thanks anyway!

  3. hey i'm using this theme did you get that black menu to pop up? the instructions on the theme info page is a bit vague.

  4. Yeah, I found the instructions a little hard to follow as well!

I went to my dashboard then went to Appearance --> Menus. I believe you have to create a new menu for the black background to pop up, so I created the categories menu and saved it. If you scroll down to the bottom of the menu page, there is a box on the left side that says "Theme Locations." I made my new menu (categories in my case!) the secondary menu. Then it just popped up!

Since I also had a widget that was categories, i went into Appearance --> Widgets, and deleted my categories widget. I hope that helps!

  5. wow, that sounds like a real round-about way of doing it. yeah, their instructions were pretty vague which is why I was wondering what to do next. couldn't they have just made it simpler?

love the oxygen's doing wonders for my blogsite but seriously, their coders need to simplify the process.

my next complaint is how they took away a helluva bunch of options on their visual editor. (sigh)

btw love your site! keep it comin!

  6. hey how did you figure it out? I still don't seem to understand how to get the showcase temp ate

  7. Oxygen Theme Description Live demo site

In Oxygen you can either have a Home page that displays your posts or a static front page ie. a Showcase template.

    Showcase page template
When you first activate Oxygen, you’ll see your posts in a traditional blog format but if you’d like to showcase your content in an online magazine-like fashion, then you can use the Showcase Page template. ...

Post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide, unless you make the post Sticky to show off in the featured slider, in which case they’re 750 pixels wide. Keep in mind: if you mark a post as Sticky but the featured image is less than 750 pixels wide, then it won’t display in the slider and will still disappear from the river of posts.
Please be aware that you cannot crop the sticky post thumbnails.

Sticky post thumbnails are 750 pixels wide in the featured slider
Regular post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide

If you don't see the page attributes module then make sure that you don't have it hidden in your screen options
    Modules to unhide:
Post – Likes and Shares, Format*, Categories, Tags, Excerpt, Send Trackbacks, Discussion, Comments**, Slug, Author, Revisions, Writing Helper
Page – Likes and Shares, Page Attributes, Featured Image, Discussion, Comments**, Page Revisions, Slug, Author, Revisions, Writing Helper

  8. it still doesn't work for me

  9. Please read what I posted above.

  10. ive read it a million times

  11. I have set up this themes on my test blog and answered the same question many times. Exactly which step do your get stuck on?

  12. it works! thanks a bunch

  13. i reread slowly and now it works

  14. Of course it works. Best wishes with your blog. :)

  15. I can't get this to work either - and I've read and reread the same post. There is no option for making a image sticky that I can find. It just says public. Yesterday the problem was that I couldn't get my images to resize. The day before that it was setting the page attibutes to showcase. Now that is working but nothing else does. My blog is

  16. Look closely at the image here for creating a sticky post (not page) please >

Stick this post to the front page
    Password protected

    OK Cancel

  17. I've seen that. this is what it looks like when I click on it.

    Visibility: Public Edit
    Password protected

    OK Cancel

    Nothing about sticky!

  18. Did you click the "edit" link next to the word Public?
    Visibility: Public Edit
    Then this appears:

_Stick this post to the front page
    Password protected

    OK Cancel

  19. Yes. "stick this post to the front page" does not appear in the drop down menu below public.

  20. You are viewing a Page.
You are not viewing a Post.
    The two are different.

You cannot make a Page sticky. There is no option to do that as you have discovered. You can only find that option on a Post, not on a Page.

  21. OK. From the instructions I thought that stickiness was necessary in order to get an the featured slider to work. Then how do I get the feaured slider to post my images on the home page as it shows in the demo?

  22. Staff Alert. This issue is not be taken care of in the forum - please help!

  23. hi, I'm stuck on how to populate the Recent Articles and More Articles sections on the showcase template. I've figure out how to get the images into the carousel but nothing automatically appears as a Recent Article or More Article - like is shown in the demo. Is this because I don't have enough posts yet to populate that section or is there some place I can't find where you ID which posts would appear in these sections? thanks for any help!

  24. Good luck. I was never able to get that to work. I have ditched my website and word press because of this.

  25. 1) To turn your front into the special showcase page of the theme, you create a blank page, select the showcase template from the pulldown in the Page Attributes module of the page editor, publish the page, then you go to Settings > Reading and set your front to display that page.

    2) The (optional) slider is designed to highlight some important posts (up to six). To make a post show in the slider, you mark it as a sticky and you set a suitably sized featured image to it.
When you create or edit a post, the sticky option is found in the Publish module of the post editor if you click "Edit" next to "Publish". To turn a post into a sticky after you have published it, you go to Posts > All Posts, hover over the post title, click Quick Edit, check the option "Make this post sticky", click Update.

    3) The "recent articles" section automatically displays your latest three non-sticky posts; these posts also need to have a featured image. The "more articles" section automatically displays a further group of recent posts; the number of posts it displays is set in Settings > Reading. Naturally, if you haven't published enough posts, these sections will be empty or under-populated.

  26. Thank you, I see how that works now and I've got it all working properly I think. It looks great (to me at least!)

  27. where is the Showcase page template? When I set up a new page I don't see any option for this in the page attributes/ template section

  28. The only options I saw were "front-page, bookmarks, archives, and full-page". Can someone please tell me how to get the "showcase" option to appear?

  29. I am also having problems with trying to center my hearder image and the slider to work. I've tried all of the instructions and yet nothing works.
