Oxygen theme and featured image

    I find it strange that if I don’t add a featured image to a blog post using the oxygen theme, a blank image placeholder still appears. Do I have to add a featured image to all blog posts? It would make sense to not display the blank image placeholder if a feature image wasn’t used. View my site for an example.

    The blog I need help with is revrrb.wordpress.com.

    That is strange! I’ve let our theme team know about this and we’ll reply back with updates.

    Thanks for letting us know!

    I double-checked with our theme team and what you’re seeing is the intended functionality for the Oxygen theme at WordPress.com. To get the most out of the theme, you’ll need to set a featured image for each post.

    Let us know if you have any other questions. :)

    I’m so disappointed but I thank you for the answer. :(

    Is there nothing that can be done in the CSS to allow a post without photo to display?

    If you have the Custom Design Upgrade, the following CSS will hid the featured image and the category links block on the “recent articles.”

    .home .featured-image, .home .entry-meta .cat-links {
    display: none;
