P2 theme posting

I’ve just started using the P2 them on my private blog for discussions with invited guests. I notice at the top of my comment/post box there’s an option for “status update” or “blog post”. What’s the difference? I don’t really want to create new posts every time I comment. Is there something I need to change in the settings?

The blog I need help with is sisterblisters.wordpress.com.

I hope this video willy help you. Please see here > http://p2theme.com/
    There’s a demo site here > http://p2demo.wordpress.com/

Thanks timethief. I had watched the video several times before I posted on the forum. The video doesn’t show or explain the tabs at the top of the posting box: status update, blog post, quote, and link. It seems that as the administrator, each time I post a comment, it starts a new post and if someone replies to me, it jumps to a new page, rather than just a continuous conversation. I’m accustomed to the way things work on a regular blog, where you post a comment and others can reply, without starting a “new post” each time. I’m trying to figure out how to just post comments on P2 without it ending up as a new post. Does that make sense?
    Thanks for your help!

When you use the box at the top of the page, that is a new entry on the main page. To comment on that entry you have to click the “reply” link for the individual post (upper right of that post). If under theme options you have “Hide comment threads by default” selected, then people will have to click on the comment toggle link to show the comments on the front page. If “Hide comment threads by default” is NOT selected then the comments will appear under the posts and updates that they were added to.

Thank you thesacredpath! I think I’m getting the hang of the P2 theme.

    You’re welcome.

P2 is a strange theme, so it takes a while to get the hang of it.

@sisterblisters, each of those styles your post in a different way:
Status Update only shows the text of your post.
Blog Post opens an additional field for your post title.
Quote: any quote put in the top field will be set off by a shaded background box; citation, the source of your quote, will be displayed in italics and right justified.
Link displays a link as a clickable link.

If you use the Categories widget in the sidebar in P2, each of those will show up as a different category.

What I have never been able to get working is the upload/insert media from the front page. So if you manage to get it to work, please share how you do it. :)

justjennifer, thanks for your explanation of the tabs. You’re correct about the insert media into a post from the front page. I couldn’t get it to work either.
Thanks to you and sacredpath for your help,

The “link” setting to create a link doesn’t work on the front page of my P2blog — http://bertrampat.wordpress.com/. It works fine if I post on the dashboard, but not on the blog itself.
