page changes have no effect

  • 2010 theme using inline:
    -individual page column options show 1 or 2 – not “1 no sidebar” as I read in peoples’ posts. When I select 1 or 2 if affects my visual editing area but when I publish has no effect. AM working Xp /Firefox or IE.

    -Do not see an option for site-wide or individual page font size

    -Turning off Comments or Like, etc. has no effect after “publish”.

    -Using he built-in categories widget, after reading l instructions, I do not see an option for creating new categories

    I have checked site-wide parameters and page ones. I a mnot using any additional CSS code to create child site.

    Thx

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • -individual page column options show 1 or 2 – not “1 no sidebar”

    1 is no sidebar. 2 is column plus sidebar

    -Do not see an option for site-wide or individual page font size

    That is only with the Custom CSS upgrade. And you have to know how to edit CSS before you can use it.

    -Turning off Comments or Like, etc. has no effect after “publish”.

    That is correct; you must turn those off BEFORE publishing the post.

    – I do not see an option for creating new categories

    You create new categories while you are writing a post, in the sidebar to the right of the Write Post box, under Categories.

  • individual page column options show 1 or 2 – not “1 no sidebar” as I read in peoples’ posts. When I select 1 or 2 if affects my visual editing area but when I publish has no effect.

    Right, because you’re talking about the Screen Options (top right). Screen Options have to do with the dashboard screen you’re on, not the published page. To get a no sidebar page you select the “One column, no sidebar” template from the Template module in the Page attributes module of the editor.

    Do not see an option for site-wide or individual page font size

    As raincoaster said, to change font size once for all you need the paid Custom Design upgrade.
    To change it on a page-by-page basis, switch the editor to HTML, paste this at the very beginning:
    <div style="font-size:110%;">
    and this at the very end:
    </div>
    Change the percentage to adjust the size.

    Turning off Comments […] has no effect after “publish”.

    That’s correct, if you mean turning them off in Settings>Discussion: changes in default settings apply to posts/pages created after the change. For already published posts/pages, you turn them off in the Discussion module of the editor (uncheck both comments and pings). If you’re not seeing the Discussion module, click Screen Options to activate it.
