Password protected page - change text

  1. Hi,
    apologies if this has been covered before, I've spent 20 minutes trawling through previous posts and have yet to find an answer.

    This is for a .com wordpress site with CSS customisation.

    I have a password protected page which has the standard text: "This content is password protected. To view it please enter your password below:"

    Does anyone know if it is possible to change or add to this text all? I would really like to be able to say, "please contact me to request the password" or something that effect.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. The easiest way I think is to hide the existing text and let you add your own new text with a little bit of CSS trickery. We are hiding the original text with the first rule and then letting you add your own new text with the second rule. Just edit the "this is some new text" in the content declaration with your own text.

    .post-password-form p:first-child {
        visibility: hidden;
    .post-password-form p:first-child:before {
        content: "This is some new text.";
        visibility: visible;
  3. That worked perfectly, thank you!

  4. You are welcome.

  5. Hi,

    I just added the code to my theme CSS but I don't see any change.. so i must be doing something wrong ;).. any idea what that might be?

  6. Sorry, I was too quick ( as usual) cleared my cache, worked as a charm! Many thanks

  7. @ernstaben, glad it worked for you.

  8. If I wanted to add a custom form under the password field like: [contact-form-7 id="834" title="please send me a password"] could i also add this to the page, and if so how would i go about this?

    Many thanks!

  9. @ernstaben, can you give me a link to the site and/or a post that you are talking about? The site linked to your username has not had any activity since 2010 and has no password protected posts.

  10. Hi,
    Sure this is a sample of the password protected page:

    Above the password field I would like the text to say something like "this page needs a password to be viewed. If you don not have a password please request it below"

    and then below the pasword field a form to request a password.

  11. You are using WordPress, but are not hosted here at I could offer a sort of messy CSS solution for you, but my suggestion would be to contact the theme designer, or post in the support forums for self-hosted WordPress sites such as yours. They can help you with making a change to the theme PHP script files which will allow you to include a link to your contact page. With the CSS solution, you cannot add a link to your contact page.
