PayPal Button at WordPress.com Not Working

  1. Hello, hello!

My PayPal button is not working, meaning that it is not taking me to any payment page. https://sangabrieltutor.wordpress.com/.

    Please help. Thank you.

The blog I need help with is sangabrieltutor.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi there,

I see that you have the image of the PayPal button, but it's not linked to anything.

    <a href="YOUR-LINK-HERE">

Instead of "YOUR-LINK-HERE" you should have the PayPal link/code to your product.

Please review the instructions on how to add a PayPal button here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/view-all/

When you get the PayPal button code be sure to use the one provided in the Email Tab as indicated in the Get PayPal Button Code page here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/get-paypal-button-code/

Let us know if you have any questions.

  3. Thanks, lizswafford. Let's see, so instead of Instead of "YOUR-LINK-HERE," I should have the "link/code to your product." Hmm. So creating a button is not enough; that is only step one. So how do I create a link/code to my product, or services?

I reviewed the steps/instructions for the button and, in fact, created and obtained the button. I just don't see an option to create the link to my services. Isn't that the link that comes in the email? If so, I've already copied that and that's how I was able to create the button. I don't get it.

  4. No worries! To get the code to your product log in to your PayPal account and follow the instructions here:

    Get PayPal Button Code:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/get-paypal-button-code/

The link or code you need is generated in your PayPal account as shown in step 6. You can copy it from there.

After that follow the instructions on this page to add it your your WordPress.com site. https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/view-all/

  5. Thank you, Lizswafford.

I am at Step 6 now. I select "My primary email address" and what defaults is the HTML code for the website. That default page gives me two options with regard to code: code for the website and code for the email. Presumably, I choose code for website, yes? Previously, I've selected the code for email and that hasn't seemed to work out so well. Thanksl

  6. A forum tag search reveals what follows.

PayPal - Know that the only instructions that will work for posting a PayPal donation button on a WordPress.com blog are found here http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/
Note that the PayPal email link is not supported and PayPal customization options are not supported either https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/paypal-button-41?replies=12#post-2517229 This is not likely to be changed any time soon, if at all.

If that does not suit you then you can purchase a Business Plan http://wordpress.com/pricing or you can self host http://move.wordpress.com

  7. So bottom-line it for me, Timethief. No PayPal buttons are allowed on a WordPress.com site without a Business Plan, correct?

So WordPress.com allows me to create a mock PayPal button--whether a DONATE button or a BUY NOW button or any of the other options--but without a Business Plan, that button is meaningless, correct?

  8. The bottom line is that the PayPal email link is not supported and PayPal customization options are not supported either.

You need a Business plan to have a fully fledged e-commerce site hosted by wordpress.COM. Business Plan http://wordpress.com/pricing

    The Business upgrade includes:
    • Google analytics
    • Footer Credit Options https://en.support.wordpress.com/footer-credits/
    • SEO Tools https://en.support.wordpress.com/seo-tools/
    • The ability to install most plugins https://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/ including woocommerce and the ability to install third party themes. https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/#uploading-custom-themes

If you do not purchase a Business plan you can read and act on what follows.

Provided you are selling only what you yourself make or a providing service that you personally provide on a wordpress.COM site, or you are asking for donations you have two options.

    (1) PayPal - Know that the only instructions that will work for posting a PayPal donation button on a WordPress.com blog are found here http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/
Note that the PayPal email link is not supported and PayPal customization options are not supported either https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/paypal-button-41?replies=12#post-2517229 This is not likely to be changed any time soon, if at all.

Some bloggers create a contact form https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/ on a page and after the people have made a PayPal donation they provide the link to a private page for downloading files. Maybe that will work for you.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/

    (2) If you set up an eCommerce site somewhere else online you can create a custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ and include a custom link to that site in it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-custom-links

If what I provided above in my first response and in my second one here at (1) and (2) do not suit you, then this guide will explain how to move your WordPress.com site to another hosting platform: Moving to Self-Hosted WordPress http://move.wordpress.com

  9. Hi gabriel 76. Did you get this resolved? I have the same problem and I can not understand timethief's answer as I am a beginner in tech.

  10. Fizzycloud,

I have not yet implemented her instructions. Better to ask her directly. Her replies are excellent and remarkably responsive.

Briefly, if you want access to the PayPal email link or PayPal customization options, you need to purchase a Business Plan. You can see the prices for that plan here: https://wordpress.com/business/. Without that upgrade, no PayPal options whatsoever.

What was good was that she presented me with options that I like:

Some bloggers create a contact form [http://bit.ly/2jpX42D] on a page and after the people have made a PayPal donation they provide the link to a private page for downloading files. Maybe that will work for you.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/

Like I said, I have not executed any of these tasks to test them or learn from testing them. Got busy with stuff.
