Personal free domain vs Premium

I am trying to purchase hosting for my wife and both the Personal plan and premium plan state that you get a free custom domain name. When I go to purchase the Personal it only states that the custom domain name is available to Premium subscriptions. Why does it state that personal subs also have it when it does not allow that plan to be selected when choosing a domain name?

To clarify, WordPress.com Personal plan and above do get a free custom domain credit. Which page you are upgrading from?

If you are creating a new WordPress.com site and want to begin with WordPress.com Personal plan, use the WordPress.com pricing page. Otherwise, you can upgrade your existing site from the upgrades page.

I am also tagging the post with “modlook” for the WordPress.com staff’s attention.

You can use the Personal Plan if all you want is a custom domain, removal of advertising, live chat support and 6GB Storage Space but you need to add the plan first. If you add the domain first, Premium is selected automatically.

    Go to http://wordpress.com/pricing to upgrade.

    Howdy –

Following up on the Modlook tag. I can see that you’ve not added the plan to your account yet.

Please follow the steps previously shared:

    1. Go to https://wordpress.com/pricing/
    2. Purchase the personal plan option
    3. Click on My Sites – Domains – Add

If you are still having trouble write back.

Ok, I think I see what I am misunderstanding. The use of the word Premium in the different pricing plans is different than the actual “Premium” plan. If I am not mistaken at this point, a “Premium” account is referring to any paid account ranging from Personal up to Business…or am I still incorrect?

Either way, I sort of went through the process and noticed that when I got to the payment portion of choosing a plan, the custom domain was included (it sort of showed the discount price on the left side).

There are three plans: WordPress.com Personal plan, WordPress.com Premium plan and WordPress.com Business plan. I was referring to WordPress.com Personal plan all along. :)

    Hope this clarifies your doubts.

So, were you successfully able to checkout a WordPress.com Personal plan purchase? If that’s the case, glad things are resolved!
