Pictures on front page have all cropped bizarrely Autofocus theme

  1. This page looked great up until just recently. Each picture had a rollover description that appeared along the bottom of the photo, but somehow the photos have all been cropped and the descriptions are now gone!
I have the upgrade and had customized it to remove the time stamps. Did something just change on this theme? How can I get it back to what it was without redoing the whole thing?

  2. Sorry the blog I need help with is actually

Same thing has happened in my AutoFocus theme blog; all of a sudden the pics on the homepage have changed. They look like they've been cropped and are completely out of synch. Grateful for any insight.

TIP: Whenever a theme goes wonky go immediately to the live demo site for the theme and see if it's wonky there too or not. Why? Because all blogs wearing the same them use the same underlying template at

I am seeing a normal display on both the live demo site and your blog.
Are you sure you don't have a browser related issue?

If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at please try upgrading or switching first.

Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see >

If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at please do these four things:

Thanks. I'm using Chrome 26, the latest version, and the pictures still display wonky. I noticed this very recently, perhaps a couple of days ago, and since others have noticed the same on their blogs I'm not sure that it's a browser issue?

  7. thistimethisspace

Chrome 26 is a wonky unstable BETA version

  8. darcydigsherheels

But I haven't changed browsers over the last few days, and 48 hrs ago AutoFocus displayed fine, so I still can't see how that's related. Thanks for trying to to help though.

  9. thistimethisspace

If you would like to upload Chrome 25 rather than the BETA Chrome 26 version and give it a try then please do that now.

  10. darcydigsherheels

Sure, I'll try whichever browser you think is best.

  11. thistimethisspace

5 days ago Chrome released Chrome 26 but it may not be stable. I do know that Firefox 19 works well.

I'll tag this thread for Staff assistance but it's a long weekend so I thought you might want to try another browser rather than waiting until perhaps tomorrow or Tuesday for help.

  12. darcydigsherheels

    Thank you very much. :-)

  13. thistimethisspace

There's another blogger reporting the same issue and I tagged that thread for Staff too.

  14. darcydigsherheels

That's great, thanks. I changed my browser and still no joy, btw. This (i.e. homepage images appaering off kilter all of a sudden) appears to be the only issue, but it's significant enough to warrant further investigation, especially as I'm not the only blogger having this problem. Cheers.

  15. thistimethisspace

Not to worry because Themes Staff are on the board today and will assist soon.

  16. Howdy all!

We've recently made a change to how post thumbnails are cropped in Autofocus. They'll now be displayed from the center of the image (like other Featured Images) rather than from the top left as before.

As you've noticed, this affects how thumbnails are displayed in past posts, and it's possible you've made adjustments to your thumbnails to display them "just so."

You can always re-assign a new featured image, cropped with the new center-weighted method in mind, or if you have Custom CSS, you can use the following to adjust them back to the "old" crop:

    .featured-thumbnail,<br /> .featured-trigger {<br /> -webkit-transform: none;<br /> -ms-transform: none;<br /> transform: none;<br /> }

I hope this clears things up. Cheers!

  17. darcydigsherheels

It does, thank you very much. :-)

  18. Wow. Thanks for the CSS insight and to everyone who is contributing. I did change my site to private, because it looked so awful I didn't want to have it live. One dumb question. Where do I put that new code? Do I look through the CSS and find/replace or just add it to the top or bottom?

  19. thistimethisspace

This is important When you alter a theme’s stylesheet, you only need to put in the Editor the modification/additions to the CSS, not the entire thing. Read this for more info:

  20. Ok. I added it to the bottom of the CSS and it worked! I appreciate everyone's help! Site is live and well again.

  21. thistimethisspace

    Hooray! That's great news.

  22. Thank you ladies, you helped me too. Gonna fix it as soon as possible.

  23. So i tried... And no... :-( It doesn't work. I don't use the css, Is there any other and free way to make it work?
    Someone? please?

  24. I have the same problem. This makes my site look very very bad. Thanks..... , i do not know anything about how to change it back i think you people should fix it. It is just not what was on the label in the first place. See the add for auto focus, well..... see the difference. People like me use wordpress because we are not that good on building sites ext. so you must not expect us to spend hours trying to get it to look like what it said on the box.

  25. Howdy @idity8 and @blayneknox! The free alternative is to go through your posts and reset any Featured Images that do not look right to better work better with the from-the-center crop.

  26. Now you see you are doing it again , no , no going through and resetting,
my time is spent in ceramics your time is in making the wordpress pages you promised in the first place. I have spent ages on this problem already. I say again, not all of us are as computer efficient as you and that is why we use WordPress. This theme looked fine in the beginning that is why we all chose it. Now we have a top right hand corner of a pic and a huge grey area , if you are trying to get rid of us just tell us then we dont have to waist hours on trying to fix something we know nothing about.

  27. @blayneknox, i gave up... it's an unreasonable alternative to crop each image from our previous posts as Sixhours suggested and anyway i don't know how to do this...
what a shame! what was wrong with it as it used to be?
i guess it's all about the money....

  28. Hi there idity8, Yes, its all about the money. Just when we all have built up a fairly large site and blog, they wrangle is so you get wordpressed into the more money option.
What do we do now, do we use another theme or will that also be wrangled in the future, or is it just time to cut our losses and move on...

  29. Idity8, i have seen another theme, (hatch). Works good for me, if it stays that way. It does not look bad at all, it displays the thumbnails as a center crop of the original . Check it out.

  30. I apologize if the recent changes have caused an inconvenience.

We made this change because it's what benefits the largest number of users. It also makes featured images in Autofocus more consistent with the way featured images work in other themes.
