I’m not the most tech savvy person, but I can’t find the plugin menu in my dashboard. I’m trying to install Jetpack and the My Book Table plugins rather than rely on widgets, but I can’t find it. I have a basic/free plan. Am I looking in the wrong place?

The blog I need help with is amybraunauthor.com.

    Howdy,

Plugins can’t be uploaded here at WordPress.com, since many are built-in here already!

You can learn more about these at:
    https://wordpress.com/plugins/

Jetpack in particular is well integrated. As for My Book Table, can you describe what it’s for? Maybe there’s another way. :)

I’ve noticed that, but I can’t seem to find the page on the dashboard or anywhere else where I can edit or work with the plugins. As for My Book Table, it’s specifically designed to work with WordPress to create an online shop where authors can sell their books.

    Hi there,

We don’t use plugins in the same way that self-hosted sites do, so they aren’t separate modules you can control individually. Many plugin features can be added to your site by way of widgets. Others, like the SEO and comment options can be configured via My Site ->Settings.

If you’re looking for anything specific we’d be happy to help you find it.

As for My Book Table, that is not supported here, and currently we don’t have any options for online shops, aside from PayPal buttons, on WordPress.com. Is this only available as a plugin? If it’s also a site where you have an account/author page, you might consider linking to that from your WordPress.com site. It’s not ideal as it won’t be fully integrated with your site, but it’s the only option that will work at the moment.

Sorry, I’m confused. Are you saying I can’t use any plugins at all? And My Book Table is a plugin specifically designed to work with WordPress. Is there a widget I can add that will make the plugins page show up? And where can I find the PayPal buttons?

There are two versions of WordPress. Your site is on WordPress.com, but plugins can only be used on WordPress.org which you use on your own hosting or server. As I said, features from many plugins are already supported here, but it’s not possible to install any other plugins.

You can find more information on the two versions of WordPress here:

You can find information on how to add PayPal buttons here:
