    Hi,
In FAQs wordpress said we do NOT allow custom themes or plugins to upload on wordpress. But when you see the features of BUSINESS plan. it clearly shows that we can indeed upload our own / customized themes n plugins on wordpress, soo as a newbie I wanna know is there any confusion? or need clearance?

The blog I need help with is sirius116.wordpress.com.

    Hello @sirius911,
Where did you see that you can upload custom plugins and themes on WordPress.COM? Can you please provide the link?

Please check out the pricing information again: https://wordpress.com/pricing/,
The business plan says CUSTOM domain names(like example.com) and UNLIMITED premium theme.

There’s no mention of uploading custom themes or plugins in any of the plans.

Read this line given in this support document: https://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

Uploading custom plugins is not supported on our service.

    and also

WordPress.com’s goal is to keep things simple. We take care of the technical details, so you can focus on creating content. As such, we are not able to support uploading of custom WordPress themes on our service.

    As stated here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

So… even if you upgrade to any of the paid plans you wont be able to upload custom themes or plugins on WordPress.COM.

The goal of WordPress.COM is to keep things simple. So that the technical stuffs are handled by WordPress and we focus on creating quality content.

If your desire to have greater customization, then you might consider switching to WordPress.ORG-as self hosted platfrom to create websites, blogs, online stores and more… It also gives you the ability to upload custom themes and plugins.

Find out the differences between WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you wish to move your blog from WordPress.COM to WordPress.ORG, follow the instructions given here:
    https://move.wordpress.com/

You can ask for help while creating your site using WordPress.ORG on this support forum: https://wordpress.org/support/. Because, this forum only supports the sites hosted on WordPress.COM.

    Thanks! 🙂

I think you are referring to activating Google analytics https://en.support.wordpress.com/google-analytics/

The Business upgrade which is the only plan that includes Google analytics also includes:
    • Footer Credit Options https://en.support.wordpress.com/footer-credits/
    • SEO Tools https://en.support.wordpress.com/seo-tools/

    Business Plan Upgrades:
    Advanced SEO
    Google Analytics

Well, it clearly says that I can upload custom themes & plugins on my site. I encircle it in red.

    #2929169

You’re in the “My Site” dashboard and clicking on “Plans” right? I think you’re just not reading the info correctly. “Unlimited Premium Themes” mean you can use any Premium theme available in the WordPress.com themes found here:- https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sort/premium/

And if you scroll further down that page it says:-

“Can I upload my own plugins?
While uploading your own plugins is not available on WordPress.com, we include the most popular plugin functionality within our sites automatically. The premium and business plans even include their own set of plugins suites tailored just for them. Check out all included plugins”.

Whoops. I didn’t look at the screenshot. My apologies. Although I can’t see that if I click the SEO button.

There’s no announcement of such a change here https://en.blog.wordpress.com/ but announcements are always made after the fact.

    #2929174

I meant “I can’t see that if I click below the SEO button.

It’s funny how many changes there have been in the last few years where the support docs are only updated weeks later! I guess it would make sense if you’re paying the money for the Business plan. I suppose full e-commerce for the Premium and Business plans will be the next announcement?

    @themagicrobot
Yes and I understood exactly what you meant.

I suppose full e-commerce for the Premium and Business plans will be the next announcement?

As woocommerce was purchased 2 years ago I think you may be right.

I gave up on speculating what will be next. I accept the fact that when the lines between wordpress.com features and wordpress.org features are any more difficult to distinguish than they are now, I will throw in the towel and invest my time elsewhere.

@timethief If this is correct (and it’s not April 1st or another one of those “mistakes” I keep bumping into) it will be complicated for you replying to the hundreds of people you do, having to tell them no you can’t use plugins/download themes on most plans but you can if you spend lots of money!

    Hello all.

This is an option that some users may see as part of the Business plan. It is not a mistake or a April Fools joke, but nor is it something that is available to everyone at this time.

    #2929190

@rootjosh Thanks for the initial response but I hope there will be a clarification of what this “option” allows those lucky Business plan users to do so volunteers such as @timethief can continue to provide accurate responses to questions in the forum.
