Pointing WordPress domain to tumblr

  1. Hey guys - hoping someone can help me. I need my wordpress domain mchalecunningham.com to point to my tumblr page http://mchalecunningham.tumblr.com/. I initiated a domain tranfer but I have to wait until the 2/7. The problem is that it's my wedding site and I need to send out save the dates ASAP which have the wordpress domain listed on them. Please help!

The blog I need help with is mchalecunningham.com.

  2. We cannot expedite this process.

There is no way to do that so hopefully you are clear on that. It can take up to 72 hours to complete the change throughout the internet.

  3. but is it possible to point it to the tumblr while i wait for it to go through?

  4. yes but I'm not sure what to put in as a new name server on the last step. where do I get that from to point to http://mchalecunningham.tumblr.com/?

  5. I'll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  6. Thanks for your help!

  7. You`re welcome.

  8. Hi there,

If you already initiated the domain transfer, you'll need to wait until the transfer is complete before you can make any changes to the domain settings (like the name servers). Changes can't be made while the domain name is being transferred to the new registrar.

If you're waiting for the transfer to be completed, you can bypass the waiting period and approve the transfer with this guide: Completing the transfer

Please let me know if I can provide any further help with this. :)

  9. If I cancel the transfer will I be able to just keep wordpress as the domain host and point it to tumblr?

  10. If you cancel the transfer, yes, you can keep your domain registered here at WordPress.com and point it to Tumblr. I can do that for you if you'd like — just let me know. :)

  11. Yes please! You rule! You're really helping me out here, my fiance will be thrilled!

  12. Hi there,

I pointed your domain to Tumblr, so you're all set on this end. :) To finish setting up your domain on Tumblr, you can complete the post-login steps described here: http://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/custom_domains

Please let me know if I can provide any further help with this. :)

  13. Thank you so much for you help. It's saying to complete this that I need to change my A Record to 66.6.44.4. I'm searching the forums on how to do that but I'm having trouble. How do I go about doing this?

  14. Hi there,

I already changed your A record for you, so you don't need to worry about that part. You just need to go through the steps under "Post-login steps" on that page. :)

  15. Ahhh - I was adding in http. We're all set! Thanks again for your help. It's very much appreciated.

  16. You're very welcome. :) Congratulations!

  17. Hello,

I am having a similar problem pointing my WordPress domain to Tumblr. I changed my A record and attempted to change the name server but it still does not seem to be working.

Could you please help me redirect american-ramblers.com to american-ramblers.tumblr.com?

  18. @jennyvh I see that your domain is pointing to Tumblr now. Do you need any further assistance? You can read more information about custom domains at http://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/custom_domains

  19. Hello @kardotim! Thanks so much your reply.

Yes, my domain is pointing to Tumblr but unfortunately it does not point to my specific page, www. american-ramblers.tumblr.com. I am just redirected to an error page saying that nothing was found.

I already went through the instructions on the custom domains to no avail. I thought the issue might have something to do with the name server.

I am just looking to have american-ramblers.com go directly to american-ramblers.tumblr.com.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!!

  20. Did you get an error message at Tumblr after the steps below?

1: Click Settings (the gear icon) at the top of your Dashboard. 2: Click the blog you’d like to update on the right side of the page. 3: Click the pencil to the right of the username section and enable "Use a custom domain." 4: Enter your domain (e.g. mywebsite.com) or subdomain (e.g. blog.mywebsite.com). 5: Click “Test your domain.” 6: Correct problems if the test finds any, and click “Test your domain” until the test is successful. 7: Hit “Save.”

  21. Hi @kardotim,

Yes, I still get the error message after I followed those steps on Tumblr.
Since american-ramblers.com points to an error page, by setting the custom domain on Tumblr to it, the Tumblr page gets redirected to the error page. That is when I contacted you. Is there anything else I could try?

    Thanks for your assistance.

  22. What does the error message say? Make sure you enter the domain without 'www'.

The error page comes up because the domain isn't mapped/verified on your profile at Tumblr. Otherwise I recommend contacting Tumbl to they can check why it's not verifying, there is a link to contact them at the bottom of this page http://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/custom_domains

  23. Hello @kardotim,

Just to be clear, I did everything correctly on the WordPress side, and it seems the problem is on Tumblr?

    Thanks again for your assistance.
    @jennyvh

  24. @jennyvh it seems your domain is working now. If you don't see the change yet, pllease try clearing out your cache and cookies using the guide below:

  25. Hello! Yes it is working! I contacted Tumblr as you suggested and they were able to assist.

Many thanks for your time and effort!

    All the best.

  26. Awesome! Feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.
