Porting from Drupal To WordPress, possible?
-
I have designed a website in drupal http://www.nintai.ca and a lot of my friends were telling me switch to wordpress due to it being over all better.
I wonder if it possible to recreate the same look and feel in wordpress as i have done on nintai.ca, including porting content.
What about creating landing pages on wordpress http://blog.kissmetrics.com/landing-page-design-infographic/ is something like that possible to be done on wordpress too.

You need to be over at the wordpress.ORG forums for this one. Yes it is possible. Sometimes it is smooth. Sometimes it is like a black diamond run on one ski with no poles.
Whether you can duplicate the look is only dependent on your skills with XHTML, PHP scripting and CSS.
There are things with a wordpress installation that will have to be done differently from a Drupal installation.

In the “docs” (codex) section over there search for “drupal” and there is a section on migration with some links to more information.

I used their search function, and it does seem possible to port over the database and the users.
Trying to find more information regarding porting the design.
-
Mainly i am looking if the features that are on my site, can be done 1 to 1 or similarly be done on wordpress.
-
The design isn’t going to be a straight-forward thing. You will have to start with a wordpress theme and then work from there with your graphics and such. I’m just starting a Drupal to Joomla conversion and I’m having to do the same thing.
-
There are some services out there that will do full ports including the design, but most of them are a little pricey.
-
theming isnt that big of an issue at the moment.
Mainly i am looking at content management, photo and video management.
-
There is no fun to let someone do the port, when in the end you will be clueless on how to do things.

Indeed true, but it all depends on your level of knowledge and skill. Some can set down, study and become familiar with the structure of both databases and then sit down and write the code required to pull the information out of one database and insert it into the correct places in the other database and some cannot. It also depends on how much your time is worth.

I’ve used that and be prepared for some “tweaking.” It did not work out of the box for me when I used it.
How’s your javascript skills?

You should be fine then. I should say that I’m sure there have been updates since the time I used it and I’m not even sure it is the same script I used.

Yeah, definitely don’t take down the existing site till you are sure that everything is working in the wordpress site.
I use a wordpress installation directly on my desktop computer for that sort of stuff and then box everything up and move it over to the live site once I’m sure everything is OK.

true, but my site is extreme complex even though it might not seems like, it took me months of research and set up. So it will take lots of time to get everything up and running on wordpress.
