Positioning of advertisements inappropriate

  1. Hi Guys,

I've had a look at my website, and I have 2 very intrusive ads on the opening line of my page. It looks ridiculous. It's literally smacked in the middle, stacked on each other. The effect of this would drive anyone away from my site, seeing as the first thing they make contact with is advertisements! I understand these ads are meant to push WordPress users to buy their domains, and I am totally for that. What I'm not ok with is the lack of insight into where these ads are displayed. Please have a look and get back to me. If this can't be rectified I will be leaving WordPress and creating a new site at Square Space. My site is https://zsccreative.wordpress.com/

The blog I need help with is zsccreative.wordpress.com.

  2. Hey @zsccreative I just looked at your site, but I'm only seeing ads at the footer of the website. Would you mind sharing what device and web browser you're using so I can recreate this issue?

  3. Hey @scifiknux I'm on my laptop (XP) using chrome. Is there a way to send a screenshot?

    Cheers,
    ZSC

  4. Unless you purchase a Personal plan http://wordpress.com/pricing or a higher level Premium or Business Plan there will be ads placed by WordPress.COM on your site.

If the ads you see are found at the end of blog posts then provided you see this small About These Ads link then what you are seeing is WordPress.com generated advertising. http://en.wordpress.com/about-these-ads/

Any other ads appearing to you are not placed by WordPress.com. You have an issue on your browser or computer. They are being placed there by software on your own computer, unfortunately. These ads are sometimes caused by malware or a virus, but more often it is due to a browser extension or toolbar that you may have installed in your browser.

These sites have further explanation and suggestions for eliminating the ads:

Note also that whenever one is asking for Staff help about ads appearing on their site by typing modlook into the sidebar tags on a support forum thread, posting screenshots are very helpful. You can use http://snag.gy/ or http://cloudup.com to share screenshots and link to them here. If you use the WordPress.com guide for screenshots http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ you can and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.

  5. @Timethief wow, that didn't help at all, seeing as the ads I'm seeing are WordPress ads. This still doesn't help with their placement either... right in the middle of my opening page home-screen. Instead of copy/pasting a generic message, maybe go in and see the ads for your self. I have mentioned the name of my page above.

Let me know your findings then.
    Cheers,
    ZSC

  6. I do not see what you see.

    Operating System
    Windows Windows NT 10.0
    Web Browser
    Firefox 55.0

What I posted above does apply to this situation and to every one like it so I do suggest you act on providing screenshots for Staff.

  7. Please also post this specific information for Staff here:
    (a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
    (b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/

  8. Hi @Timethief If you read my earlier request you will see I asked how to send a screenshot, as that option doesn't necessarily jump out at me from the options I have seen on this chat site.

  9. @timethief once again, if you had read my earlier entries you would have already seen these questions already answered...
Please read before sending me more updates.

  10. I provided instructions on screenshots above at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/positioning-of-advertisements-inappropriate?replies=8#post-3022350

No more updates of any kind from me will follow this one.

  12. @zsccreative as @timethief said, you can navigate to https://snag.gy/ and copy the URL here. That will show us a screenshot so we can see what you're seeing (because we're not seeing it on our end). The URL should look something like this: https://snag.gy/zCwup7.jpg

In general, WordPress' advertisements are not obtrusive. There are malicious programs (called malware) that will show you more advertisements while web browsing, and we think there's a possibility your computer may be infected with that kind of software.

Another possibility is that if you're running an operating system or browser that is longer fully supported, the web page may be loading differently than intended. That would lead to advertisements showing up in the wrong place.

If you have any difficulty copy/pasting your screenshot URL, just let me know and we can look at an alternative.

  13. Hi ZSC,

I can see the ads you are referring to, they are right in centre of your front page. I've asked our ads team to look into their placement and I'll be in touch when I have more information.

Hello, I seem to have the same problem on my website https://notjustageekgirl.com/. It didn't used to be like this but in recent months, I noticed the ads are showing up right under my featured post on my home page, ignored them for a while, but now my followers are complaining about how annoying they are that they're at the top of the page. It happens in all browsers and was reported to me by a couple other followers so I'm sure it can't be that we all have malware or a virus. I thought maybe it's the theme I'm using, but I see no way to control it through the theme. Is there something that can be done to get rid of this? I have WordAds to monetize the site but those ads appear at the bottom of my postings page, the one that shows on the home page under the feature blog is intrusive. Thanks for any help you can give me.
