“Possibly Related Posts” Suddenly Showing up for One Post Only w/NSFW Content
thanks Matt for getting over here so quickly
1) does it exclude people who tagspam?
2) does it exclude mature blogs even from other mature blogs?
I’m dying to see what shows up on my ‘which condom are you’ post.
It’s a political post. no willys.
Alas, I got nothing fun with a John Lennon post that used the word “mate” alot.
Wait 10ish seconds, then reload.
This will be a newbie question but:
What do you people mean by local and global when refering to this feature??
That’s a fairly stupid feature if completely unrelated blogs can tag there. The two blogs that were all over mine had nothing to do with anything on my blog and their comments were turned off.
Local=relating to and coming from only your blog, like the Category links in the sidebar.
Global=relating to and coming from any WordPress.com blog, like the Category links on each particular post.
Aaaah thanks for that raincoaster…. Both seem like cool features when I think about it… I have seen many self hosted wordpress looking blogs that have a “see also feature” that acted locally on their blog. I guess they enabled it via some sort of plug in?
Maybe it can be possible in the future if both features were enabled… I.e. “Locally possibly related posts” and “Globally possibly related posts”… but I am not sure how so much of that would look on to peoples blog posts.
why am i unable to see this feature? i checked the Xtras and i do not have it disabled.
Both features ARE enabled. That’s what I’m whining about. I don’t want Globally related posts, I’m too egocentric.
FWIW, the one post on my blog that has this feature has gotten more hits than expected at this point, although it has no comments. But I see not one referrer who could be this new feature, so maybe the two things are not related.
Yeah I also can’t see it so far…. dunno what’s up :s.
Haha raincoaster, now now, sharing is caring ;p
We’ll have better stats in the next few days, but estimates so far look like blogs with it on will definitely get more traffic.
As for the relevancy of the results, we’re going to be making lots of tweaks over the next week based on people’s feedback. I think we’ll also be able to allow some customization of the results. :)
That’s good to hear.
Re; hits: Looks like it won’t pay to use obscure vocabulary, for one thing.
How will this show on the stats page re Referrers? Will the referrer be the post that had the link? Or will it show as if from WordPress?
BTW, I would love to see some way to remove one link only ie if you didn’t like to refer to the post, felt your readers would not like it. Perhaps a box you could check to make it and only it disappear?
I think we’ll have to wait and see if it does. If someone sees your blog in Related Posts on someone else’s blog, it would be helpful if they’d A) tell you or post it here and B) click through it, so you know you definitely got one referral through that. That should be enough to make it show on the Extended list of All Referrers for a day, unless you’re Cheezburger or something!
OK just to update: I noticed the possibly related posts popping up now and again in some of my blog posts but this occurs when I look at a blog post individually and not the entire blog as a whole.
Oh and I like kymk’s first question as well. I am guessing they would appear as the wordpress blogs that they clicked from and then to confirm if you were to go to it you should see your link somewhere on their blog.
As for removing those you don’t like… That is an interesting point but wordpress team will be careful in how they tackle this issue. People might abuse the system and simply not allow any ‘possibly related pages’ on their blog post while they will be more than happy for people to leave their link on other peoples blog posts… Hence if you don’t like what you are linked to they would probably just tell you to turn the entire feature of.
Speaking of these blog post links… do they always stay the same, or will they get updated as time goes by when newer things come along?
“Possibly related posts” is a distraction. I detest it and have had several negative comments since it went up today–without any warning.
Thank you for telling how to get rid of this monster.
One thing I really don’t like: at the bottom of the single post I’ve made since the change went in, there are links to three blogs. I click, I go to the blogs in question, none of them have links back to me or, indeed, anywhere. They were all posted BEFORE this change went in.
So, right now your posts link out primarily or exclusively to posts that do not, and will never, link back to you.
