Posting a link
You need to have either text or an image selected, then click the Link icon, then add the link. You can’t add a link to nothing.
Its a link to an article. Up til yesterday afternoon I could do that. Now I can’t. Please advise how I can. thanks
This is the guide for creating links in posts and pages: http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/
This is the general link model:
Highlighted anchor text here
This is the visual result – it’s not actually linked.
Highlighted anchor text here
1. Enter the anchor text you want to link to first.
2. Then use your mouse to highlight that anchor text. (If you don’t highlight the anchor text the chain icon will remain grayed out and not be useable.)
3. Next click the chain icon in the editor and proceed to create the link.
I think I just got a migraine. Wish you guys wouldn’t just change processes like this without a heads up, or some cheat sheet telling us what changed, why, and how its better..and oh, btw, here is how ya can do it now. For those of us less tech savy bloggers its very frustrating. What is an “anchor text?” And, why can I no longer have the highlighted text be linked? I was able to have it that way up til yesterday afternoon. thanks
Anybody have any thoughts? I’d like to do post some articles on my blog, and now I can’t.. Help! Thanks!
I don’t know how to help you and that’s why I did not post again. You will have to wait for another Volunteer or Staff to provide assistance.
I created a short screencast of how to add a link within your posts:
Can you confirm that’s the same process you’re using without success? Also, based on your previous responses, it sounds like you might be trying to add a link within the subject field. You’ll need to add links within the body of your posts. Can you confirm that’s what you’re doing?
Thanks for weighing in! Yes, I’ve been adding links within the body of my posts. And, like I said at the beginning.. I’ve been doing this same process for a couple months (after the last change to the process without warning)..and it worked fine..til yesterday afternoon. Anyway, I figured out the work around, and that’s to use the little “insert media” icon. So, I’ve got it to work…for now…until they change it again…without giving us a heads up….again. lol Thanks again, and have a great day!!
Great! I’m glad you found a workaround. I’m a bit curious. The Add Media button should only work for embedding images and social embeds like tweets into your blog post. Can you explain how you’re using it to add links? Perhaps I’m misunderstanding what type of link you’re looking to add.
Just links/URLs to articles. Sorry to have confused you. And, I had to modify my processes, yet again, last night… So, now I’m using the classic format because it doesn’t work in the newer format style. I guess the biggest frustration to someone like me, who isn’t that tech savy, is that the processes change SO frequently..and there is no heads up, or maybe a notice about what is changing, why its changing, and HOW it makes things better…..if that makes sense. Things just change without warning. Thanks again and have a great day!
I definitely understand. We make adjustments to WordPress.com so frequently (over 100 times a day) that it’s hard to notify users of all changes. However, we can definitely do better with larger changes. It’s something we’re working on!
Thanks! Appreciate that. Cheers!
