Posts to Pages
Whenever I add a new post, it goes to the home page but not to a certain page I would like it to. There seems to be no way to add multiple posts to a certain page. How can I post certain things to certain pages, but have it show up on my home page as well?
The blog I need help with is minaretsroundup.wordpress.com.
Pages we bloggers create are static. They can’t update with new content. There is only one page that we can post to in any blog and we cannot prevent any posts we publish from appearing on that one page. By default it’s the front page of the blog that all posts appear on. We organize posts by assigning Categories to them and when we publish the software automatically displays the posts on dynamic Categories pages. We create a custom menu and add the Categories pages to it as menu items.
Here’s a link to a custom menu walk-through > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/11/wordpress-com-custom-menu-walk-through/
There are many common errors, misunderstanding and misconceptions when creating custom menus and you can read about them here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/
What I think you are looking for is to have posts of one certain category/tag to go into one certain menu item.
The easiest way to do it is to go to your Dashboard > Appearance > Menus.
There, you will see various panels on the left side marked Custom Links, Pages, Posts, Categories and Tags.
For your purpose, just create several “Categories” menus and add them to your main navigation menu (i.e. right panel).
End result is you have all your e.g. Fashion News category posts grouped under a menu item called “Fashion News.”
Please read the links given to you from timethief above. Her links will give you a clear understanding about why you cannot post to a page.
She also explains how to use categories and custom menus to provide your readers with an excellent way to find the topics they (and you) want to find.
