Prior to upgrading to Business - a few questions

  1. I'm looking to create a website for my organization, a government parks agency. I've done a bit of searching around to find answers, but I haven't located definitive answers for some of these. We will likely one day go to the .org WordPress option, but for now were looking for a simple and quick method of getting a skeleton version of our website back online until we have the resources to devote to designing a more customized site.

We are looking to upgrade to the Business plan, but as we are government, Finance frowns upon using credit cards for anything but our travel, and we do not have PayPal. Is it possible for WordPress to invoice us for the charges in order to get up and running?

We are required to post in four languages: three of which use Roman characters, but the fourth is syllabics. They are an entirely different set of characters, therefore Roman fonts are useless. There are several fonts that could be used, but from what I can tell, only fonts found on TypeKit can be use for customization. Is this the way it works? Can I use a font of my own? Can I upload or request a new font through TypeKit? How plausible is this?

At this point, my research suggests that we may be forced to adopt the .org immediately, but I'm hoping someone knows a work around that I haven't yet been able to find.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Be aware of the differences and the fact that themes cannot be transferred from WordPress.COM to WordPress.ORG sites.

All upgrades must be paid for in full at the time of purchase. No purchase orders or invoices can be issued.

Companies and non profits or any other groups do not own blogs. Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner and it is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and their associated email address.

You must be logged in under the exact same username account that registered the blog who is the sole owner and Admin of the blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator to purchase and/or renew upgrades for the blog. If you’d like your upgrade to renew automatically each year, you can Enable Auto Renew.

Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/

Your Billing History is at Dashboard > Store > Billing History
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/billing-history/

That is where the blogs sole owner and Admin can print out their own receipt and satisfy whatever their reimbursement requirements may be.

Below are the only accepted means of payment.

  7. Thanks for the links. As I mentioned, I've sought out a lot of these answers, so I've seen many of them.

It's looking more and more like we'll have to start straight away with a .org.

  8. It's looking more and more like we'll have to start straight away with a .org.

That's exactly what I would do.

    Get hosting http://wordpress.org/hosting/

If you don't have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

    Best wishes.

  9. Hi, where you mentioned you want a skeleton site up before moving to WordPress.org, I just want to clarify a few things:

    - Premium themes aren't transferable, but most of the free themes available here are also available for WordPress.org . It is possible to get the same look and feel. One would just need to set up WordPress and the theme before transferring the content. More info here.

    - If you're using multiple languages here, I'd actually recommend creating a different site for each language then linking them to each other. You can pick your fonts for each (via Typekit or Google Fonts) accordingly.
