Probleme with Links "http" -> "https"

  • Hello !
when we use the Publicize setting or when we get the shortlink, the link starts with http, and we learned recently that it should be with https. Therefore, each time someone clicks on the link, there is a security warning. Is there a way we can have the https automatically on each post?

  • It looks like both your WordPress.com sites use the free URLs, and we have redirects in place that any visitor of http://lesinsouciants.wordpress.com/ will instead land on https://lesinsouciants.wordpress.com/. So on your two sites there shouldn’t be a problem sharing either http: or https addresses, or adding https instead http put into the shortlink.

Errors only occur in cases where you have a custom domain here on WordPress.com. Visiting those with https causes an error, but visiting them on http does not.

The reason why is that we maintain our security certifcates using WordPress.com as the domain, since that’s where we serve all our content from.

When the browser sees ‘https’ in the URL, that really just tells the browser to check the SSL certificate. When the browser sees a custom domain, but checks the certificate and sees its made for WordPress.com. The browser then sends up a warning because of the mismatch. Readers can still get around this warning, but it’s less than ideal, especially in Chrome.

So right now it’s best only to share the http (not https) URL for sites with a custom domain.
